Xenon keeps going off!

My friend has a 54 tt 3.2 roadster. Her driver's side headlight keeps going off. The side light doesnt come on at all. Is the side light connected to the headlight when it's xenon? Audi have quoted her over the phone about £1000!! I don't know anything about xenon's so any help is much appreciated. Can the bulb be replaced or does she need a full headlamp unit? Thanks for any response.

Does it go back on if you turn the lights off then back on again? That happened to me, one side then the other. Both times it was the connections needing cleaning (think it might have been the earth???), that was all. It was on a 3.2 coupe. Both were done under warranty though.
