Rear light intermittant fault

My 2008 TT has developed a fault (on the outside of the two) off side rear light , it will come on for about 10 secs and then go out. I have just changed the bulb and the same thing is happening again. Any Thoughts? The inside bulb of the two is working perfectly.

did you check the bulb holder for corosion ?
give it a clean up with wire wool
