    New owner advise TT 3.2 DSG

    Right, my partner took it upon herself to purchase a TT Yesterday... I was obviously really chuffed she went out and bought a car without telling me...

    Anyway, I havent seen it yet but it doesnt look too bad. My question is are there any common faults? Problems to look out for? etc etc the usual stuff.

    It's a black 2004 TT 3.2 Roadster with DSG.

    Is the Quattro a Haldex system? I'm pretty certain it is but just checking.

    Also it's just gone over 60,000 miles so does it need a cambelt or is it on a chain?

    Thanks for your valued replies in advance, i'm currently googling service schedules to see what needs doing on it but might get an expert reply to this lol...

    PS... Anyone want to do a partner swap?

    Yes it is Haldex, and yes, you should get the cambelt done (and water pump etc.). There was the dashboard issue, but I think that was pretty much ironed out by 2004. Also, there was an oft reported fault on window closure too. That one was dealt with on a recall I believe.

    PS - the DSG is fun!

    Is it a chain or a belt? I'll get it booked in!

    And yeah I agree with DSG, not entirely convinced on it being a "drivers" gearbox though lol. Much prefer manual

    Belt - a decent specialist should be able to do all of that for less than 1k.

    Have you found launch control yet?

    Launch control! From standing still, put in sport mode & turn off traction control. Swap your feet over so that you are using your left foot for the brake. With the brake on, floor it. The system will set you up for a perfect start. With right foot still planted, lift you left foot. Wait maybe half a second and you're off.

    It's a bit of a gimmick really, given you could just, well, floor it anyway. But it's fun in a childish kinda way. Just make sure the engine is warmed up!

    It's a chain on the 3.2's and it's a known weak point on various models across the vag range, namely the mk4 r32, early mk5 r32 and A3 3.2's. Whether the same is true of the TT 3.2 I'm not sure but I would I would suggest it's likely to be.
    Listen out for a strange rattle down the gearbox end and if you have vcds you can check for stretching in blocks 208 and 209.
    Fingers crossed yours will be fine but you need to bear it in mind
