I think, given the incredibly social groupings on ASN it would be a fantastic idea to have a chat box.
No reason why it couldn't have the same moderation rules as the swear filter etc; if treated respectfully I think it would be a great way for everybody to learn more about each other, socialize and meet new people in a more engaging way.
It could be a dedicated sub forum, like "General Chat" could have a "Chat Box" sub forum or something like that.
