Fuel Gauge Problems S3 2002

Hi all,

I noticed that my fuel gauge is only reading 1/2 a tank and when I get to the 1/2 tank mark I had ran out of petrol. The gauge still works when I fuel up but only in the 1/2 to full tank section.

My question is: * Is it the Gauge?
* Is it the fuel sender? :sos:

You can test the dash panel with VAG-COM output tests. It sweeps the gauge through it's full motion to see if it's working.

I wonder if the sensor arm in the tank is sticking. I've not heard of this before, but worth a look. You can get to the sensor from under the rear seat bench. If attempting yourself, its best done with as little fuel in the tank as possible.

I know it may sound strange, but there may be some dirt on the sender, i had the same problem on my A4, it was literally a little dot of muck on there that was stopping it!!!

Cheers I will be having a look tomorrow to see if the sender may be dirty it's possible.

I'll be using some spark free tools don't want a S3 fire :sob:

I would be totally sick if it ever did happen :puke2:
