I have been meaning to do a write up on this for a few months and seeing as I had 30 mins to spare here goes.

I have my rns-e installed now since may or june of this year. Works great I even traveled from Ireland to Essex during the summer which was Ferry to Fleetwood and then drove the rest of way to Basildon.
Excellent setup never got given a wrong turn and the instructions always came well in advance of what turns were coming up etc also it reroutes you when it recieves traffic jams and crash reports which is nice.

The only feature that will be lacking will be the arrows and directions given in the dash this is not a problem because you have a pleasant voice telling you all the directions (we call her Margaret lmao with her posh english accent and all)
Before you ask no it does not tell you where the speed traps are unfortunatley.

Parts you will need are:
  • RNS-E NAv plus unit from an A6 C5
  • Kufatec Can simulator.
  • Satelite antenna and A4 B5 rns-e iso harnesses for radio etc
  • The Map DVD
  • Double din Cage and housing.
  • Double din air conditioning control unit
  • DOUBLE DIN ASHTRAY Optional but I got it coz im a smoker.
First off: you can fit an A6 RNS-E NAV plus in a B5 A4 quite snuggly and it is the most advised one to get as its the nearest fit you are going to get.

The unit to be looking at getting has part number: 4BO O35 192P.
I got mine from Poland on ebay.pl
I will try to get you his name later.
He is reliable and he mostly sells these at auction. He also included the sattelite antenna and misc. wire harnesses for radio etc and an original 2007 map dvd for all of europe along with a backup copy.

Just be careful dont buy off just any Polish guy as they can be dubious in Poland as you might have seen a previous post of mine A4 b5 vs Polish police car LMAO.

Can simulator: You will want to get a kufatec canbus simulator which is just a small unit which will translate certain codes into a language the rns-e will understand (mainly to turn on and off with ignition and to luminate the rns-e buttons when you switch on the lights) Without this it would be quite annoying. They aint cheap though at about €80 to €100 .
But tbh it is something that you possible could get away with not using it but I WOULD ADVISE you to buy one because of the risk of accidently leaving rns-e on and battery going flat on you while you are sleeping. ~So get a kufatec!

A/C unit: You need an A4 b5 dbl din unit.
The top of the unit will overlap the rns-e which cosmetically isnt too pleasing so what I did and a few other ppl I spoke with on navplus.us was to sand down the bottom of the rns-e with a file and some sandpaper. Now it fits nice and snug.

Double din: You will need one of these if you have a single din radio. These are quite hard to come by on ebay and quite pricey from the stealers. I think it can be customised to fit into the single din surround but I just got the double din housing with cage all togheter (sometimes you can get lucky on ebay) I also got a dbl din ashtray from ebay.

Now something
that isnt discussed much is that there are two types of gearstick surrounds a single din one and a dbl din one. I of course had a single one. I wasnt aware of this and was quite annoyed when I noticed it would not fit right so I then got the hacksaw to it ( I made a balls of that bit the cut was very uneven coz I was getting imaptient! )
I emailed vag parts a few months back and they said they have two types of dbl din gear surrounds -Piano black- which if i remember correctly costs £20 to £30 and they also have a -carbon fibre- one for a whopping £150.
I will be getting the piano black one to match the rest of the interior at some stage not that I would pay that much for to the carbon one anyway!!!.

Any questions?

If you would like me to take some pics or want me to guide you more on how to install one let me know.

It sounds very daunting but tbh the fitting of the dbl din cage was the tricky part and the filing for cosmetic looks was the labour intensive bit.
It really is not as hard as it seems honestly.

Locating all the parts are the time consuming bit took me over a month and a half to get all my stuff togheter as I set a budget before hand so I always kept to my budget when bidding. I think in all it cost me in euros €1k give or take.
An excellent addition to the car and when I do decide to sell the car I think ill get an A6 C5 and take it with me lol.

The actual fitting of the rns-e is basically plug and play.
I didnt have to Vag com or anything as you just leave it on the A6 coding and it will learn with the adaptive technology built in to the rns-e what size wheels you have etc (usually after 200 or so miles).

If you have made it this far without nodding off fair dues to you as I do ramble a lot at times lol .

N.B. If anyone is interested I have a spare double din cage and housing listed in the classified section of the forum so that would be a relief for anyone desperate to get started.

I hope this will contribute to the B5 forum in some way!
When I get some time I will maybe strip the car and take pics of install and post it here weather permitting of course.

The person I got my satnav off was called nikin777. Very reliable and throws in all the extras. I paid €655 for my Rns-e. He now seems to have a shop on ebay (<----click link to see).

I will take some pictures tommorow and have them on here before monday.
So watch this space.:icon_thumright:

also be interested in pics....

Ok I took an hour out of my Sunday afternoon to take some pics of the install so I hope you all appreciate it guys!

I will only be covering the parts that connect to the double din install and not the actual double din cage and housing.
To find out how to install the actual cage and housing please search the forum.

Ok first off you will the following items I got all of my bits from ebay mostly apart from the kufatec adapter I got this off kufatec a german website.

Removal keys

Below is a double din AC unit and the following pic is the part code of it

Now a double din ashtray optional but does help finish off the look here is the part number.

Part number for RNSE

Below is the kufatec cable which you will need for the unit to turn off/on with ignition and to light the unit up when you turn headlights on.
Below that is the radio fakra cable.

Above pic shows kufatec plugged in.
Next post is the actual install.

Ok on to the actual install.

In this pic below you can see that the double din housing and cage have been replaced with the double din one.

As I discussed in the first part of this post that I cut up the gear surround and I made a mess of it lol but I will be getting the dbl din one from vag parts soon enough. As you can see my hacksaw skill suck. But I usually put my window cleaner rag there and then have the ashtray open so you dont notice it really. Here is my botch hacksaw job.

Ashtray goes in first in this pic I am plugging in the wire for red ashtray illumination.

Tighten with 8mm torque wrench
http://www.pc-logix.net/images/RNSE_A4_B5/rnse021.jpg

Below pic shows the cables that goe into the climate control unit you cant go wrong here as they can only fit into their own holes.

http://www.pc-logix.net/images/RNSE_A4_B5/rnse022.jpg

Cables are now installed time to fit it in.
http://www.pc-logix.net/images/RNSE_A4_B5/rnse024.jpg

Now you need to fit the kufatec cable to the corresponding plugs on the car harness (again its hard to go wrong as you can only fit the right plug into the right connector.

Sorry for not mentioning this before but you will need the sattelite receiver too. I couldnt be bothered to take this out coz it means taking the dash out from behind the steering wheel where I have mounted the receiver. Maybe somone will be kind enough to post a pic of one.
Anyway here is the plug from the sat receiver below.
http://www.pc-logix.net/images/RNSE_A4_B5/rnse026.jpg

Radio fakra that connects to aerial on car harnass
http://www.pc-logix.net/images/RNSE_A4_B5/rnse027.jpg

Now in this picture below you can see I have plugged in all the neccesary cable at the back off the unit.
http://www.pc-logix.net/images/RNSE_A4_B5/rnse029.jpg

Now push the unit in place into the dash.
switch on. You will now be asked for the pin number. Key it in.
http://www.pc-logix.net/images/RNSE_A4_B5/rnse031.jpg

HEy presto now you are done!

http://www.pc-logix.net/images/RNSE_A4_B5/rnse037.jpg

It is hard to get a picture of how it lights up at night but here is my attempt.

http://www.pc-logix.net/images/RNSE_A4_B5/rnse038.jpg

I tried to be as accurate as possible here so I hope this clears up most of the questions all the B5 guys had concerning the single to double din conversion to install an RNS-E.

Now my work here is done. But if you have any further questions just pm me.

YES I KNOW I NEED TO VACUM AND CLEAN MY CAR!!

I decided to go for that one as leather heated sports seats is one of my planned mods.

All you will need will be the RNS-E unit and all the cables mentioned. You can disregard the other parts as you have them all already.

Cheers for adding the pic of the sat receiver Jimbo m8. :icon_thumright:

Cheers for the nice comments m8.
I hope to fit audi bluetooth to it next.
After that I may be going the carputer route which is a small computer which can be mounted in the boot so that you can watch movies, use as an endless source of music, run vag scans or play video games by using the Satnav screen as the computer monitor (controlled by a wireless mouse and keyboard). A Carputer setup shouldnt cost me too much as I own and run a computer shop lol. Big project so I dont know when that will be started as I have a few other things I need to do on the car before that.
Ill add these to the write up after I finish each part of the projects.

If anyone is starting this project just pm me for any help in sourcing or fitting the parts.
