Hi all,

As some of you maybe aware, ive been looking for a straight clean S3 for a while now, and have been let down by 3 sellers in a row!! Bad luck or what, either way i have managed to find the following"

2001 "51" Black S3
Black heated leather
Ali mirrors
PDC
Centre Armrest
Bose

The car has done 27k, but has only 1 audi stamp in the book at 10k, and a audi specialist service at 24k, is this something i should even be worried about? The DIS reads it needs a service in 3.5k miles, but this is because the garage didnt re-set it.

I plan to have all services in future done by audi, to keep the record straight, do you think this would put potential buyers off when the time comes for me to sell?

By the way, heres the car im going to be picking up at the weekend

Please do let me know what you guys think, as wales is a long way to go for a lemon!!

Thanks

The main dealer vs independent specialist service stamp is often debated here. Those in the know appreaciate that an independent Audi dealer is as good, if not better, than a main dealer. However, some potential buyers might not appreciate that, and look for full dealer history.

Just avoid non-Audi independents, as I think they would damage the credibility of the service record.

Personally I will have my next service at an independent.

Id say thats a very fair comment, but as i say, i will be getting the car serviced all the time by Audi in future, so 1 stamp shouldnt really make that big of a difference should it?

Also im getting this car at 13k, you guys consider that to be a decent deal?

I don't think it will make much difference at all, don't be put off by that.

I think 13K is about right, and it's well below average mileage so yes, looks like a good deal.

You'll need to get the service indicator reset somehow ...

Can anyone tell me where i can go to get my DIS reset to show more miles before a service is due?? I just called Audi, and they said they are not allowed to do it? So they want 380 quid for a AVS 1 service for the stamp in a book, and to reset it, a bit steep if you ask me, considering it was just serviced 2k miles ago!

You can reset the DIS manually (according to the manual, I've never tried it) by pressing the button to the right of the DIS display (mileage reset) with the igntion off and turn the ignition on, keeping the button pressed until the 'SERVICE' text clears from the DIS (I think, I don't have my manual with me at the moment).

Save yourself a whole heap of money and find an independent you trust and get it serviced there. The amount of money you spend on Audi dealer stamps is not going to be recouped in future resale value, and to be honest I trust good independents a whole lot more as they have a genuine interest in keeping you happy and keeping your business.

Can any of you help me out on how to reset the miles due before service on the DIS? Im sure its pretty straight forward, but i dont want to shell out for another service as its only just had one 2k miles ago, and my local Indy that i trust would be AMD and they are over 60 miles away!

Thanks for all your input on this
