rnsd unit wont read discs

Just bought an 03 a6 avant with an rnsd retrofitted,.it all works apart from it wont read the sat nav discs!

Ive tried the discs in a different unit no problem so it must be the unit?

It just says the disc is unreadable, only thing i could think to try is a lense cleaner, not very technical!!

Any other suggestions would be gratefully recieved :)

I would try & get in there & clean the laser head with some tongue dabbed minimally damn cotton buds, dry of with another, rub it back/forth as the dirt gets burned on as per the rns-e.

If units ********, then upgrade to rns-e, much better unit by a mile.
 
Cheers mate, any idea where the lasers home position is if im going in through the cd slot?
 
Open it up, dont go in via the slot.
 
Oh, well try the lens cleaner, but I'd be surprised if it worked so well on a unit of that age, as rns-e units havnt had great success, I'm always cleaning the lasers by hand & works very well.

Failing that I can offer to do it if you courier to me & courier back.
 
Thanks for the offer mate but i dont have the knowledge or confidence to renove the unit myself so if paying someone to do it for me i may aswell pay them to fix it too, i love my cars but i dont mess about with i.c.e or interiors too fiddly :)
 
Give me a shout then as I can come out & look at it.
