    Really mad at garage....

    Guys,

As per previous thread decided to get major service done with spark plugs etc and brake fluid change done at a local (darlington) so called specialist. Went to pick it up and guy who was parking it up says "have you noticed a problem with it idling?". Of course not it runs fine any probs and I take it to my normal guy. Wish I'd done it in first place but thought this would be straightforward.

Anyway I noticed when I went to drive away no power then loads as usual. It also decided to cut out. They have now had it overnight and hes talking about replacing the air mass meter. I'm sure there was no issues before they got it and if hes going to charge me where do I stand????

Does anyone have suggestions mechanical or otherwise?????

    Really peed off!!!

has the garage scanned the car to see what the problem could be?

I think it was air mass meter bank 1 or something then a few faults which he said could be related due to that. The engine management light appeared on after I drove it away from them. Its never been on in my ownership. Could it have been damaged by the service?

unplug the maf and see how its running then.
Could be trying it on as seems strange it was OK before . I take it its the RS6 being serviced? Do you ever ask for the old bits to be kept so you can see whats been done?

I'm considering doing that now as I have never been unhappy with any work on it previously. Its been suggested to check airbox and MAF connections. Garage have just told me the connectors to the air mass meter were brittle so they have broke and will have to wait til tomorrow for replacements.

so did they break the sensor? and why were they checking/removing it? Sounds like they are not very clued up on your vehicle.

Sounds like their fiddling with the connectors broke something. This should never have happened, clearly they should have told me they weren't confident working on an rs6. :-(

I think he has replaced the MAF sensor and connectors, one of the pins was pushed in and some of the red plastic in the black plugs has snapped. As far as I am concerned its been caused by them unplugging them, fair enough they may be fragile but if they snapped them do I bite the bullet and pay for them, I don't want to be paying for labour as they have had the car 2 days extra now.

Oh yes sorry peeps! I posted on here but it failed after I picked the car up so if your wondering...

No extra charge from garage and some new silicon boost hoses so I am more than happy with how it turned out in the end. You always worry when something goes wrong don't you?

This is a common mistake made by garages that don't know the RS6. 99% sure that when they pulled the filter housing off they snapped the wires connecting the MAFs. The correct way is to loosen the air filter housing and lift it only a fraction so that access can be gained to the MAF connectors. Disconnect the wires and then continue to remove the housing.
Another possibility is that they haven't replaced the housing properly so that it forms a seal around the top of the MAFs.
Either way, they are at fault and should repair the damage.
