RS4 B7 Oil - 5W-30 or 5W-40 - HELP

Hi.

I was wondering if anyone can help / has any thoughts on oil for my 07 reg RS4 - I have received so much information from garages, websites etc all with slightly different ideas / advice!!

I am running my RS4 on 5W-40 oil at the moment and Audi have told me it is set to the longlife service plan.

I now need some more oil shortly to put in and when I spoke to an Audi dealer today they told me to put 5W-30 oil in it.

Is there a big difference between these oils - is it better to swap over onto the recommended one from Audi or carry on with the 5W-40 - can someone please help me

I dont have an RS4 but use 5w, 30 and audi recommend it, but it above mate.

5w30 on the longlife
5w40 if on interval

Isnt it better to service a car like thjs more often rather than stick to long life intervals...
How about a ester 0w30 oil?

Isn't there a sensor in the sump that will detect if too much non-long life oil is used and change the service interval?

Any oil that meets the required VAG standard.

I always use Castrol Edge 5W-30.
