Smile New RS4 - About those 'Ali' Mirrors?

    Hi All,

I've got a real problem that's niggling me after researching the B7 RS4 literature wrgd the mirrors. The literature states they are non-folding. Does this mean they don't fold back at all or don't fold back electronically?

This may seem like an anal question but i've got limited garage door width access and it could make the difference insurance wise, should I chose to buy.

    Appreciate your help

    Clive

From what I can see in the brochure it looks like they are fixed, although I'd be very surprised if they dont fold at all .

But it does look that way unfortunately.

I'm sure some lucky devil who owns a new RS4 will reply soon.......

    Thanks for your reply.

The brochure definitely gives that impression, however I would like to think that Audi don't compromise practicality for style ...

I would also like to think that if I clipped someone (or vice verse) then the mirror would 'give' rather than snapping off & causing untold damage to door panels and potentially other drivers...

I'll probably be into my local dealer this weekend if the forum cannot provide answer.

Also agree, a simple question for existing owners ...

The standard mirrors on the RS4 Saloon and Avant do not fold at all.

Only the cabrio is available with the folding mirror option where they are simply A4 mirrors.
The rs4 saloon and avant are indeed fixed and cannot be folded in even manually; they just 'detach' !

oh, and if you 'clip' something, they would completely detach...!

Thanks for your response. Now I'm even more confused (or maybe a bit thick!)

    1) Is there some mysterious reason why Audi should only offer folding mirrors on the Cabrio?
    2) Why should you want to detach the matt aluminium mirrors and if they do detach do they do so easily?

    Getting desperate now ...

You'll be surprised at this; according to the Audi website my A3 is wider than the RS4 if you include the mirrors!!!

    A3 = 1957mm
    RS4 = 1933mm

I have the A3 in the garage every night - and I thought that an RS4 would never fit in there as its pretty tight with the A3 - but now it looks like it will........... mmmm interesting!!!

How much are those RS4s again ha ha

It's down to actual mirror size as the body of the B7 RS4 is about 40mm wider than my B6 A4, but across the mirrors the B7 RS4 is narrower.

    B7 RS4 = 1933mm
    B6 A4 = 1937mm

Suppose I have got 4mm less to negotiate, if I chose to go for the RS4 and take the risk.

    Garage access width = 1987mm

That gives me ... 27mm per side ... shedful!

Mind you before it was 25mm! ... will that 2mm make all the difference?

I will have to start practicing taking my A4 in and out of the garage with wing mirrors unfolded. If I can do it consistently with 25mm per side I am sure I do it with 27mm per side.

Anyway this conversation is getting a slightly bit 'anal' ... I''ll get my coat!

You've lost me there! ... mmmm! ... no you've not!

As a matter of fact I do normally go into the garage at a slight angle and that could make it slightly easier...

If you really wanted, you can buy the folding mirror assembly and retro-fit. Allparts South West Ltd do them for B5 and 6. Dunno how you control them though, I'm aasuming you'd have to buy the correct mirror switch.

Thank you my friend ... I've reserved myself to the fact that they will not fold either electronically or manually. I've been practising taking my current A4 (B6) in and out of the garage without using my folding mirrors and so far no problem. It's a few 'mills' wider than the RS4 at it's widest!

If they do in fact fold back then that will be a bonus !!!

So is there anyone out there who is prepared to buy my 'fine example' of a A4 3.0 QS from me?

Apologies to the Moderators, but I just have to get a 'plug in'!

And we're not kidding! They don't fold at all, not in any way, shape or form.

I wanted the auto-dimming folding mirrors on my RS4 Avant - but the factory refused to build it until we took them off the order!
