    B7 RS4 Alarm Upgrades?

    Alright Guys an Gals.

With the increase of breaking in and theft of our beloved cars on the unstoppable rise, I was thinking of upgrading my cars ''alarm'' to something a bit more potent.

I want to keep the factory fob etc and was just wondering if any of you out there have had your systems upgraded and if there was a particular one you could recommend?

    Thanks for any input folks

Sadly, and I'd rather not highlight this but alarms are a minor irritation to car thieves and although technology has changed, my mate had an Escort cosworth that he purchase when it was 4 months old so quite some time ago. He fitted 4 separate alarms to it to fool car thieves, 2 each of the top alarms and yes, it still went missing, he did get it back but I t was delivered to him banana shaped after the robbing b******s rapped it round a tree. Sadly, they walked away and we're never caught.

Yeah fair one mate, unfortunate truth I suppose, I've got a large 3.5lb ball pein hammer in the flat, that'll be making banana shaped objects out of anybody's face who comes near my baby, I'm not a violent person, just passionate....

Hi there I've been thinking about getting the RS3 alarm upgraded and have been speaking to Antony at secure my car
He recommends the Viper smart start system as it integrates with the canbus system and he has done loads of Audi's BMW's etc.....

What about going back to basics! I'm having the tins removed to allow a base layer of clear security/ sound proofing membrane then a better fitting tint on top. The membrane won't stop the glass from being Brocken, it will slow the oxygen thief as the glass needs struck time and time again. The tw-ts will need a cutting implement in order to cut this very tough plastic layer to gain access. So fare all they have gained is attention and 5lowed them by 5 to 10 min.

The seats themselves quiet basic but very affective. Find the nearest iron/ metal out let and ask for some anti vandal securing bolts, try to source more than just 1 design. Yes if you need to remove the seats your self it will take you quite some time. All that and they still take the seats, then give them a unique identification! Have the vin number/ chassis number put onto microfilm security dater tags so small your unable to see them with just your eyes. Place a not in the car telling the light fingered thief some of the security features. It'll be more hassle and a greater chance they'll be caught.

Good idea to have a smart proximity detector with a warning/ alarm function. Fail that place a notice stating the car is electrically powered and connect it to the national grid

The problem with that is that the bolts secure the seat (and occupant) in the event of an accident so the bolts have to be high-tensile types as the OE ones are - unless in the event of an accident you want to run the risk of your insurer invalidating your claim because of an undisclosed safety related modification.

This is the reason why the investigation on the RS4 forum at RS246.com into security bolts for the seats came to nothing.

I have also been looking in to this and after having my RS4 body B5 1.8t and now owning a B7 RS4 I needed more options.

I think the current system is quite robust

You can't drive the car away without keys
    Can't bypass the immobiliser
Can't open the door once locked

    Bad points:

If Keys are taken hard to track
If windows smashed they can get your seats, steering wheel & gear Knob.

How to get round this problem:
    As stated armoured film
    Tracker
    Covert alarm

For me a tracking system is something I'm looking in to and one of the issue with tracking is the running costs. So with that in mind I started looking at mobile phone tracking software, but this brought it own issue and that was they only work when you know you have lost the phone or in this case the car. But after hunting around I found an App which will allow you to track your car plus the app will text you if your car moves plus I can turn it off and on when I like.

I only installed the system at the weekend so I'm still testing but it's looking to be a cheap option as I only need a pay as you go sim with credit.

Don't bother with a commercially available system such as Tracker and similar products - they're only installed in 1 or 2 places - which every professional thief knows - so they can be removed in minutes. Plus a professional knows how to prevent them from being able to "talk to base" - often as simply as parking the car in a metal container for a week until its backup battery goes flag.

Provided your system is NOT installed in one of the places where a Tracker is then it won't be as easy to find, but it will still suffer from the unable to communicate from inside a metal container problem.

Unlike a tracker this system which needs you to inform the company tour cars stolen this system tells me when my car moves and there for I can track it on the move. This system uses a old android phone with the app installed on both one acts as the controller allowing you to turn the tracker on and off plus I get to put it where ever I want.

Which assumes that the phone has network coverage - and if the car is inside a metal container it won't have network coverage...

The Viper system seems the best at integrating with the Audi Canbus system, so it's the one i will be going for, Antony seems to know his stuff and he has done a fair few Audi's recently.

I will know before it gets there or have a good idea as I will know the moment it's taken and track it from there and hopefully guide the police to it.

I found a commercial tracker in my RS4 under the rear seat when cleaning the car.

I fitted one of these myself and it is properly hidden.

TK104 Long standby Real-Time Car GPS Tracker (Waterproof, Magnet base, Immobilize function): Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

I think it works great and I've tested it abroad too. It alerts 4 phones if the car moves outside a set location or if driven over a certain speed. It also can do remote shutoff. Very clever bit of kit and if the battery is disconnected the battery last 60 days.
