RS4 Limiter Malfunction?

I was pushing my RS4 and somehow it managed to read 170mph on the speedo, now i know the car is bog standard. Is it a speedo error or does the limiter not cut in? Can anyone explain this?

In this months Autocar, their is a small section on the RS4 (new and old), with the guy test driving the original on the autobahn, and goes on to explain that the speedo needle hit 174mph before the electronics shouted halt.

Both my RS4's exceeded more than the limited 155mph on GPS. The limiter thing isn't particularly accurate!

It may be chipped if you did not buy it from new.

I'm not convinced Audi actually fit them. The B6 S4 definately isn't limited in stock form.
