    MOTUL 300V

Hi guys, I was told to use Motul 300v for the RS3. but it's bloody expensive... but more than that it has a finite life of 1 year and around 4000 km. does anybody on the forum use this oil for their RS3? My main stumbling block is that the car is used as a weekend car therefore i Have alot of low mileage but the car can stay up to a week or more sitting in the garage. So my first priority is to have fast oil lubrication in the minimum time possible.

May I know what you guys think.

ambient operating temperatures of the oil are around 13 degrees in winter and 37 degrees in summer. I choose low-traffic times to take out the car so am not really stuck in traffic with it.

BUT what grade of MOTUL 300V?

Your link is for MOTUL 10W40 and I'm NOT sure that that's recommended for this engine.

MOTUL 5W30, however, does comply with VW 504 00/507 00, so that'd be OK.

My service here in the UK has ALWAYS included Shell Helix ULTRA AV-L 5W-30, and that too is approved to VW 504 00/507 00, and my usage is very similar to yours.

MAKE SURE you use engine oil that complies with VW 504 00/507 00 (as that's what this engine's internals are designed for) and then change both the oil and filter EVERY 12-months, whatever the mileage/usage.

ALL internal combustion engines LOVE CLEAN lubricating oil!

AND lubricating oil does so much more than lubricate...

Hi John sorry about - it's Motul ESTER CORE 15W 30. I had read what you had sent me which I appreciate however I could not find the oil you are using here (which pissed me off big time). I was going for this oil because of the extra protection it says it gives in extra harsh conditions. But the dominant factor for me is the fact that I use the car weekends only so I want the quickest max protecting oil when starting the engine after a week lying still. Can you give me a second opinion about this oil?

Engine oil for me Kenneth, an engine man through and through, is like the blood coursing through your veins; it may look 'red' but it's characteristics may not be entirely suitable for application, if you see what I mean.

This engine was designed around engine oils that comply with: VW 504 00/507 00, and I cannot find those numbers in the Motul specifications so NO, I would not use it in my own engine.

Originally, my car, and most probably yours, was supplied with Castrol Edge Professional Longlife 111 5W-30, and that complies with VW 504 00/507 00, and those are the numbers I would NOT ignore, especially during start-up, the worst conditions that exist for the wear ratio of internal components.

The only Motul oils I can find that comply with VW 504 00/507 00 are:

    Motul: Feu Vert: 50400 507 00: SAE 5W-30: 50400/50700
    Motul: Motol Specific: 504 00 507 00: SAE 5W-30: 50400/50700
    Motul: Motul 8100 X-clean +: SAE 5W-30: 50400/50700

    See: Volkswagen Oil Standard 504.00 / 507.00 Approved Oils | my-gti.com

OK, where you're situated these oils may be marketed differently to those here in the UK but the compliance specification (VW 504 00/507 00) WILL remain the same.

What other engine lubricating oils do you have available on that 'motor crazy/fast/racy' wonderful island of yours Kenneth?

Hi Kenneth, I definitely use the Castrol Edge Professional.

Question: Did you have a top-up 1-litre bottle of oil with the car, mine was located in the 'spare-wheel' space, and if yes what oil is that?

Mine was/is Castrol Edge Professional Longlife 111 5W-30; so if yours is the same Kenneth, then that's the way to go - keep it clean and change it regularly.

    AND enjoy that RS3...

    And you may recognise this:

    Hi John,

Good afternoon. I certainly recognise the place. It's called Valletta Waterfront and the event is the Mdina Grand Prix - now a popular event even overseas with cars being shipped from abroad exclusively for the event. That car in the picture is pretty special because the owner went into painstaking detail to keep it original as much as possible. Respect to the Mk1 but my fave is the e-type jag v8 especially in british racing green or red

I did not have any 1L oil bottles in the car. What a pity That would have saved me quite a hassle

    Thanks for your assistance John

    Correct, Kenneth.

I'll pass your kind words onto Michael, I'm sure he'll be appreciative.

I'll also let him know of our contact...

    It's a small world...
