I guys, earlier this afternoon my dealer rang me and asked me to book the RS3 in for the breaks squeal problem.
I asked if this was an official fix from the manufacture or was something what Preston Audi was trying, but the lady on the phone said that they had the parts and received instructions from the manufacture technical team on how to fix the problem.
She also asked if I could leave the car with them all day, because they need to do some tests ( not sure what ) and need to take pictures, before, while the work is being done and after aswell.

I have her booked in for wednesday and will post to let everybody know the outcome.:blackrs4:

Good! But they should all agree on the same message. Audi customers service told me 4-6 weeks this morning. Nevermind.

I dont mind 4-6 weeks ,wonder if they will change the front rotors and back disks,, as well :)

Now just a 6 month wait for this to filter down to all dealers, o well least its progress

Hey Vito, see if you can get a copy of: "received instructions from the manufacture technical team on how to fix the problem".

We ALL have our fingers crossed Vito, good luck.

Yes this wednesday

VITO! I'm now going back to bed (11.40 Tuesday) so that Wednesday arrives faster; I just can't wait - the anticipation is so overwhelming.

I've telephoned Stafford Audi 7-times this morning just to ask if they've any news for me; unfortunately, or fortunately even, they've been engaged every time, so no news for me.

So please Vito, get to Preston Audi early tomorrow, and then collect and test the car as early as possible, tomorrow, and report back soonest, tomorrow, Vito, please.

I can't wait Vito; we'll ALL be bl##dy waiting.

I've already opened the SANGIOVESE wine and the DOLCELATTE cheese (both ITALIAN Vito) ready to celebrate.

I'll even get the tatoo (next week, maybe?)

GO Vito! Viva Italia!

Hi John, unfortunatly I will not be able to pick it up tomorrow tea time coz I dont finish work utill 7.30pm, sorry but it `s gonna be on thursday morning.
And also today in Preston it`s been a nice day with temperature above 11c., the squeal seems to have almost vanished, I ve only heard it a couple of times, that`s ****** typical isn`t it !!!!

PS, Don`t get that Sangiovese down all at ones, it might make you start singing.. " O sole miooooo !!! ":whistle2:

RE: coz I dont finish work utill 7.30pm

Vito, my boy! The tears are rolling down my (retired) cheeks.

Anyway, it's a poor excuse... My faith in you is fading as fast as the Sangiovese Vito, fading bl##dy fast!

So Thursday then, tsk! Hope they get it right or you may be taking me up on my offer...

I/we want full details Vito, chapter and bl##dy verse...

My email to Audi customer complaints... I mean services was sent Saturday but I have yet to hear from Audi, so I might give them a ring tomorrow morning if I do not get an email just to ask why I have not had an acknowledgement of my email, & if anything is being done about it. I think I will also complain that Audi are not good a Customer Services, as all they are bothered about is selling cars. As soon as they have got your money they forget about their customers until they want to flog there latest model or deals, which is totally unacceptable.

Aftercare is just as important as the sales, otherwise you will not be able to retain any loyal customers.

I forgot to mention that I also plan to go into my local Audi dealers tomorrow after speaking to Audi Customer Services to have a paint nick looked at on the bonnet as the paint speacialist is only there on a Wednesday & it is possibly a quick fix which I have been told will buff out.
I will see if they have heard anything from Customer Services about a fix for the brakes as per Vito's post. I may even get them to ring Preston Audi to find out what the fix they plan to fit to Vito's RS3.

I received a courtesy call today from the workshop manager at Coulsdon Audi to see if the recent non-Audi approved brake fix was working, which it is. He volunteered no info about this official fix announcement though, so I've enquired about it on email and will follow up tomorrow. Got the car booked in to try and sort out a couple of rattles/squeaks next week, so will push for the official fix too, if available.

Looking forward to an update from Vito on Thursday...!

Well seems a bit strange that nobody has heard anything about this break squeal fix and I can see that a lot of you are are getting annoyed, rightly so by this, so I thought that it would be better if I clarified about what I was told by Preston Audi coustomer service.
As I mentioned in the first post on this thread, when I got the phone call from the dealer the first thing that I asked was if this was an official fix from the manufacture or was it something they were doing themselfs at Preston Audi, the exact answer given to me was that they had the parts and had received instructions, from the audi technical team, on what to do to fix the squeal.
I dont know if the person who I spoke to was talking out of his **** but I will find out about it when I drop my car off in the morning and will let you all know everything as soon as I can.

I should find out this morning as I have a call to put into the Service Manager at Carlisle Audi, same franchise as Preston. I E-mailed him suggesting your car was being done and he has spoken to them yesterday so will know shortly exactly what is going on.

So what I have just been told is that Vito's car is getting the new upgraded anti-squeal Brembo pads that is generally retail available and some non standard parts, i.e. anti squeal shims. Preston Audi then have to do a complete shakedown of the new set up and report back whether it has resolved the issue before they will offer it generally to all RS3 owners who report the same issue. So Vito is the Ginuea Pig!

Carlisle Audi are upgrading my notification of brake squeal along the same lines as Vito's and will report back shortly whether Audi technical will sanction the same action for my car

Vito my friend,

May I respectfully ask you to take along the copy of the "Self-adhesive anti-squeal shims fitting procedure for the RS3 (and TTRS)" I sent to you and ask how and/or what Preston Audi are doing/or have done differs to that detailed in the procedure.

Have they either: (a) applied the same/similar self-adhesive anti-squeal shims, or (b) fitted the revised Brembo pads that are advertised as being 'squeal free. It has to be one or the other, surely.

It's very interesting that Coulsdon Audi has asked monkeyboy_marcus about his 'self-adhesive anti-squeal shims i.e., the same 'fix'; and now P_G with Carlisle Audi (and I know of one other member dealing with Carlisle Audi on this and other problems with his RS3).

ALL VERY interesting...

I got an email back this afternoon @ 13:38 from Customer Services wanting my Chassis Number, address & contact number, so waiting for further contact before returning to my local Audi dealership. I replied an hour later so am still waiting for news from Audi.

Yes P_G, that`s exactly what they were going to do to my car, except that the new anti-squeal Brembo pads were not mentioned to me, but will know about it tomorrow when I collect the car.
Basically looks like that are applying the 45bvtc fix :)applaus::for you John) and as you said MY rs3 is the GUINEA PIG !!:wtf:

The wait is killing... (and the bottle now empty, Vito)

I spoke to the actual guy that is dealing with all RS3 recalls late last week and he informed me that March is the expected date for a fix. I would make sure any fix offered is an Audi UK fix and not a dealer fix.

He also told me that the fix is not mileage dependant and any RS3 with the issue will be dealt with once the fix is announced.

I have just a call from my local Audi re: my email to Audi Customer Services. Basically wanted me to book my RS3 in to have the brake squeal fixed.
Now I am a little dubious about the fix they are going to do to my RS3 as it is booked in for Monday 9am (earliest possible date), & they need it for half a day - no problem there. When they told me what the fit they were doing they said they had complaints from other owners of Q7, & TT's which I expected, & the product they were going to use was a German product also used on the DB9 by Aston Martin. So is this the same parts inc. Copper Seal or a new alternative?

I then got a follow up call from Customer Services who get my local Audi to email me what work will be done on Monday.

They will then ring back Wednesday to see whether the fix has worked so the results can be feed back to the factory. If not then I can push for the Brembo pads & Copperseal if this fix is still working for Vito, as I did mention a few times that Audi Preston have already applied this. I was asked if this was done as a courtesy fix, but I was unable to answer that question. I only guessed it was their own fix.

Apparently each dealership will be doing there own fix for the brake squeal so as mentioned earlier contact Audi Customer Services with regards to brake squeal. They will also need your Chassis number to speed to the process, then they will pass you details on to your local dealership & discuss with them with regards to getting a solution sorted.

I have now collected the car which has been fitted with a heatproof soft backing that sticks to the back of the ORIGINAL pads and taking in to consideration the wether condition here in preston (cold and dry,the same conditions that worsened the brake squeal during the last few weeks) I can say that the fix is working 100% fine, I have not heard the squeal at all, the only noticieable difference is a bit of sponginess-more travel of the brake pedal, of which I have been told is due to the softness of the anti-squeal shims but will settle and be back to normal in 100-miles or so.

Again this is due to there being NO shims on the pads in the first place i.e.,metal to metal.

Dealer will be contacting me in about a week for some updates on the fix ( I am not sure if they wiil want to have a look at the car again) and feed back to Audi UK.

GO VITO! Metal-to-metal eh? Who'd have b#*$$dy thought it. Audi/Brembo didn't!

The soft pedal will go in 50-miles or so Vito, believe me and/or JonnyG - who experienced the same 'soft pedal' (and you would, wouldn't you i.e., hard metal-to-metal (pistons to pad) compared with a relatively soft anti-squeal shim (pistons to shim)).

Why did it take Audi/Brembo so long?

Enjoy Vito, enjoy...

Ciao!

I have spoken to Audi UK again today, this is not the official fix that people are getting but a dealer fix. You will still get the official fix once it has been made available, estimated end of March currently.

Some dealers are applying copper slip and some the spongy pad backing however neither are permanent ;)

With respect RYes3: in my own experience the Copperslip will reduce/eliminate/dampen the brake-squeal for approximately 1000miles (ish), but I'd be prepared to guarantee the self-adhesive anti-squeal shims WILL last the life of the pad, and I'm prepared to put my own money on that - pity Audi/Brembo aren't.

All the evidence gathered to date suggests that the anti-squeal provision, as supplied by Audi/Brembo, is NOT FIT for purpose, period.

For me, I just couldn't abide complaining to Audi so did something about the problem myself.

For the record, the brakes on my own RS3 started to squeal in February 2012 but having applied first Copperslip and then the self-adhesive anti-squeal shims they've remained silent ever since (as duly documented within this post)

However, FULL credit to Audi/Brembo and especially the hierarchy of Audi UK, they MUST know what they are doing????

I'm just passing the details that I have gained from Audi UK, not disputing you.

All I am saying is that people thinking they are getting the "fix" are not getting the "official fix".

No offence intended, at all. I sincerely respect all inputs/advice; thank you. Hopefully together we'll arrive at an effective solution.

It was always my understanding this was an Audi technical fix rather than a Quattro GmbH fix. So long I eventually get both FOC it doesn't matter!

After reading my comment on that FB page, Audi Uk rang me yesterday apologising about the poor temp. fix applied to my rs3 told me exactly what you are saying RYes3 ( definatly in March, didn`t know though what they are actually going to do to the cars) plus will be getting some good will gesture.

With regards my last post a week ago, I took my car in on Monday to have my brakes fixed. Typically as per Murphy's Law, both on Sunday when I drove it to Sheffield Meadowhall Retail Park for the Yorkshire/Humberside Group meet. Then on Monday when I drove to my dealership my brakes didn't make any noise. :banghead:
Audi drilled some holes in the brake discs and also sprayed them with some solution, which they had the car for the whole day. Now I gave them 45bvtc's fix and pointed out this does work as has been working for three other people, although I do understand if the mechanic still wants to try Hull Audi's fix, but if he could look at the fix I provided and consider using it. I also said that Audi Customer Services would contact me 2x days later & if I still had issues I would request for this fix to be tried as it has already be offered foc.

I took my car for a two hour test drive on the Tuesday but could I recreate the brake squeal.... Could I B@ll&*ks!
The last time it was definitely noticed was when going down my short drive, so I tried various ways to get it squeal again inc. excessive braking, driving forwards and backwards and braking and also braking at the last minute, but to no avail. As 45bvtc mentioned earlier the damp conditions are possibly masking the fault.

So when Audi Customer Services rang on Wednesday, we came to the conclusion to defer my case - put it on hold until next Tuesday to give the car a bit more chance to bed in. So to conclude I'm not 100% sure it's fixed but until the weather improves, then I think the results for me are inconclusive as the noise didn't seem to be there before the fix. A bit like going to the doctor with an ailment for it to seem to have cleared up when you visit the doctor.
