On the M60 in Manchester, noticed a set of blue flashing lights behind ... noticed the car was unmarked ... noticed it was an RS3 :) Didn't know the police used them.

All blue lights were well hidden around the car. Nice to see the police have good taste in cars :p

PC: "Well Sir, we really think the RS3 would make a cost effective and discrete addition to our unmarked fleet" (tries not to grin)

2 possible ideas

1) it was someone pretending to be the BiB ;)

2) are the police not allowed to use cars that have been siezed that have been payed for with the proceeds of crime?

id never thought of that.

but if not, its disgusting the amount of money they spend on cars.
fire service is even worse round here. job cuts, yet every station in merseyside is being rebuilt.

Ok. So you would rather the police had crap cars? They need fast reliable good handling cars to catch the scum bags who steal our fast reliable good handling cars. Different budgets for different things. Jobs and salaries is one thing. Buildings and vehicles another. Wrong that its like that I know but thats the way it is. For me the police should be belting about in the fastest things possible with the addition of a massive fecking bar at the front so they can ram baddies off the road without damaging their own car. Then they should be aloowed to drag them from the car and...................................................................:undwech:

traffic cops, YES.

town plod driving around in a brand new X5 arresting school kids (which i witnessed last week in the town centre) NO need.

they always use seized cars
then swap then round the citys up here in sheff theres 2 RS3 1 rs4 s6 a 4 s3's that have been seen
i live quite close to the interceptors base and see them quite offen

I see one in a rs6 a while ago,one guy got in a m3 BMW,the the police drove up flashing lights and what not,to find out that the car isn't stolen.made themselves look stupid tbh.

My area isn't sooo bad that police need a High performance car though.waste of money.

This is what happened when greater manchester police got their mits on a £40,000 vw golf R.....ran out of talent.

reeeaaaaalllly winds me up that.

they are no better than any chav going round hooning at night.
i love the way they use 'there may have been ice on the road that night' as some sort of excuse.
if it was anywhere near minus temps then the complete bellend shouldnt be testing a performance car 'skidding around a roundabout'

im sorry if i tried my dammed hardest i dont think i could ever wreck a car that bad on a roundabout. unless it has a circumference of about 5 miles.

Can you remember the colour please ? I use the M60 quite a lot

Yep it was black, blue LEDs in grille, rear window and in the door seams. It went past me at roughly 120mph, but i'd recognize an RS3 anywhere.

they don't always buy them, sometimes they are being given away by the car manufacturers too, so I heard. Some sort of advertising, makes sense actually

On this side of the world our local specialist cop teams like the "flying squad" all drive around in marked Ibis white S3's.

I was chatting to a neighbour a while back, and a mate of his turned up. We got talking about cars, and this mate was a policeman. He said the top speed of the rs3 is over 180. I said no way, and anyway it's limited to 155. Then he told me about a police helicopter on his patch that was chasing a stolen rs3. Over the radio they reported an indicated ground speed of 180+ and couldn't keep up!

(i'm guessing it was mapped...)

NB

I've seen 2 ranger rover evoque's unmarked where I live in the last few weeks, now what's the need for them then? there not fast good handling cars too catch the scumbags

Land rover/ range rover have a relationship with the police going back around 50 odd years so it's almost a taken they will be issued with anything bearing the marque.

With the first range rovers the police were given the cars as a test bed as they put so many miles on them in a short space of
time.

Plus people see police using any said marque and it's a great marketing tool as the cars are then seen as reliable and sturdy workhorses.

Audi "don't take too much care" with the accuracy of the "155mph" limiter on RS models - e.g. a standard RS4 can do a true 163mph (measured with GPS). I expect a standard RS3 will do more than 155mph.

Hampshire Police seem to like either dark coloured Skoda Octavias (seen several of them) or Mazda MPS models (I got pulled by a bright blue unmarked Mazda 3 MPS last summer).

yea right!!!
they get stupidly fast cars
but never used it to catch
"Don Corleone" and "Mr biggs"
characters. they R just lazy Cl_lnts
waiting on anpr hits alone.

Managed to track down a pic of one of ours...guess they aren't stock S3's either then :p

of course they can do more than 155mph with limiter removed. You can by the TT RS from new with the limiter set to 174mph and it has the same running gear under it.....

Saw the unmarked RS3 in Manchester today on Chester road, they had pulled over some guys in an M5 I couldn't believe my eyes !

My RS3 is not limited I've had 170mph out of it on an old run way near where I live and backed off believe me it would of went faster

No remap or anything just a full Miltek on it I was surprised myself... They are very quick cars I have wiped the smile off a lot of peoples faces in mine and they have been in some very quick cars.

Standard RS3's are definitely limited but it is not a hard cut at 155mph.

When I first took mine on the autobahn after filling up at Shell in the Netherlands (they only have 95 RON fuel) I hit 155mph and could feel the car being held back with 3 reasonably sized guys and 2 weeks worth of snowboard gear in the car. 2 hours later filled up in Germany with V Power Racing fuel 100 RON hit 167 same load in the car, and it still felt held back. Speedo was confirmed accurate with GPS.

The cars seems to allow you to go over the 155mph depending on how hard the engine is working, quality of fuel, mixture etc. As yours has a full Miltek the increased airflow is probably lowering the engine / fueling load or mixture at the top end.
