    eBay + paypal = pita

I've just moved into my 1st place, and i wanted a few gadgets to make it nice for me such as HD projector and a nice surround sound system

So i forked out about 1400 through a couple of ebay items, and all seemed well

I then get emails from both sellers saying that paypal are with-holding my funds due to expected fraudulant activity. Fair enough, it was a lot to pay in one go, at least they're on top of it

Now Paypal and ebay have decided to wait 5 days before refunding my money, which hasn't even gone to my paypal account, it's gone back onto my card....apparently

I can't see no fricking money in my account!!!

Just takes the utter piss that they hold money for a week in their stupidly high interest account, and then do it again for another 3 days when they give it back

My money is in limbo!!! No where to be seen!!!!!!!!

    Drives me insane

Always link your paypal account to a credit card. It's not your money then so it doesn't matter... as much.

But yeah, ebay/paypal do take the pee. But then they are second in charge of the world, so they get away with it. First in charge is Google.

    I do.

Only use them for larger purchases though or internet buys. You get extra protection as credit card companies have some control and take some liabilty for dodgy happenings. Banks don't really.

Using debit cards linked to your bank account and hard earned money is too risky. I've been ripped off a few times now, then you've got to wait ages for the problem to be sorted and money recreditted to your account, as you are finding out now, sadly.

Hope it gets sorted as pain free as possible though mate.

The title of this thread matches my feelings exactly.

Why should I be forced by PayPal to return, at my expense, via recorded delivery, the cheaper and incorrect items that a seller delivered to me in order to get a PayPal refund (the seller even admitted they deliberately sent the incorrect items)? If the seller wants the item then they either shouldn't send them in the first place or they should pay to have them back. At the very least they should enter into some sort of dialogue about the problem rather than not replying until I raise a PayPal claim and then trying to accuse me of theft when I open and win a not as described claim!

On this note, I would highly recommend that before using Mr Silicon or Auto Performance (same people) that their feedback is studied first.

I bought a laptop from eBay a couple of years ago that cost over 1200 which I paid through Paypal. I got an email a couple of days later from the seller telling me that I had sent the payment by echeque by mistake and it'd take 5 extra days to clear. I was about to deploy to Afghanistan so I didn't have 5 days. I asked him to refund the money and I would pay again making sure I chose the right payment option. So I did this and then looked at the transaction and it said echeque! I can only assume that because it was such a high amount they couldn't transfer the money straight away (even though my credit card was also linked to the account ) SO I thought ok, nevermind, apologised to the seller and he refunded the money no problems.

    BUT

both cash sums were already on the way from my bank account to my Paypal account! So I had to wait the 5 days for the money to come from there, I couldn't withdraw anything from the bank but the money also wasn't in my Paypal account so I was a bit goosed! I took it on the chin and just waited until the money appeared so I could transfer it all back again, nearly 2500.

    BUT

F***ing s***ing c***ing t***ing Paypal set a limit on withdrawals of 500 a month!!!!!! The money I had just transferred in I could even take back out again! By this time I was in Afghanistan and had to do everything via the internet. They had to send an activation code through the post to my home address (my parents at the time) which took over a month to arrive as it was sent from Arizona and then finally I could transfer MY money back into my account. Total joke.

Feck me sideways, those fees are getting ridiculous, they make billions profit so why are they squeezing us so much now, they're just alienating the users now.

Dont see how that has any relevance to ebay tbh, they didnt lose out in the crap economy, not at all & there skype purchase & subsequent sale actually lost them sweet FA so why they are raising prices which is alienating sellers & buyers in droves is just lunacy, do you know how much profit they make & paypal iirc is actually making the majority of the profit now & its not like there accounting sheet is looking dyer, cash cow.

Its just an abuse of position with ebay/paypal as a whole, just like the no possibility to leave bad feedback for buyers, what a joke.

Admittedly I still use them as it has the widest audience which is why fees go up fairly often now, 10% on motor parts alone, but fees kill me these days.

As usual, this is about the bank's keeping hold of your money for as long as possible, then after a set date 5-7 (working days) release your money. It may only make them a few pence, but as tesco say's every little helps!
