I'm 23, 2 year ncb, decent post code, paying Ł156 a month for fully comp with admiral. Am I getting screwed, 'cause it feels like I am!!?

...Didn't have much choice, everywhere I called just told me they wouldn't insure anyone under 25 on a "performance car".

FOR SALE: Eibach Sportline Springs from B5 A4. ÂŁ50 - PM for details.

Ouch! 0yr NCB due to first insurance policy, or other reason?

I've personally never paid over Ł1k for car insurance, started from the the bottom @18 years old paying Ł500 for a 1.3 Mk2 Golf on 3rd Party, and slowly building up NCB and getting nicer and faster cars along the way.

Same thing happened to me with elephant.co , l was the proud owner of the first Mk4 R32 in the uk. They had never heard of it and l got insured for Ł600, with zero no claims and 33, full comp.

One of the reasons I'll stay 'up north' where crime is uber-low and insurance rates mean I can have what I want without the scum-bags deciding they want it.

In saying that...I still keep my cars garaged, in a secure and alarmed garage.

poxy a3 mmmmmnnn says the golf lover

    there's nothing wrong with a3's....

    No, indeed there isn't...
But at that sort of cash...it's still a poxy A3...a mass market, FWD hatchback. Nothing more...
Good as they may be...for me, paying that to insure one just doesn't add up.

A Golf is just the same, generic FWD hatchback too...nothing more.
I have no issue seeing that.

But of course, I forgot that an A3 is an Audi...and hence further up the pecking order....but Ł3000 PA further up the pecking order, in my book.

The point I was trying to make was that for Ł270 a month...I'd want something a bit more special than a bloody A3!
For that, it would need to be properly exotic - Enzo, Carrera GT, Zonda etc.
not a mass market hatchback - no matter who makes it or which version it is.

I appreciate that where you live has a huge bearing on things...but Ł3240 a year just to insure an A3?
    Holy sh*t!

Just bent Adrian Flux over the table and rogered them!

My insurance is up for renewal on the 28th of this month and they quoted me Ł669.39 (i'm 29, 7yrs NC and had 1 SP30 in 2005).

Put my details into Moneysupermarket, got the lowest price Ł382. Called AF and told them the good news. New quote (now with NC protected) Ł381.

    Pint anyone?

Good work there, I always call Flux last and they have nearly always delivered the final quote in beating all the other quotes. Though one year, Greenlight was a better price for some reason or another, despite me having 10 years NCB!

Why does adding an older person to your policy get you a cheaper price??

Geezer at work got quoted Ł700 just for him, but adding his wife brought the premium down to Ł650

I just don't get the logic behind that!

Does the insurance company do something like change the terms&cons of your policy when adding someone else to it???

Not sure...but adding your partner tands to take it down also, even if she (or he!) is younger.

I think it's to do with splitting the driving and potentially being less tired.

So they assume that because you've stuck someone else on your policy you are going to split the driving with them and not just drive the car at different times which kind of doubles the risk of an accident etc.
    Bit naive, ain't they!

No, I think it's adding a spouse to your policy that brings the price down a little, as they see you as a family man with more responsibilities(yeah right). Maybe married men are safer drivers in general statistic wise?

NEVER accept the automated sent out renewal quote, who the hell does?! Always cheaper to phone around, it'll cost you a few quid in phone calls max and maybe 30 minutes of your life, but saving are out there to be made!

Very true Jojo, a few phone calls trading one off against the other pays dividends! Don't be tempted to remain loyal, cos sure as hell they won't!

It always annoys me how their "Best deal" can be improved when you hit them with a more favourable quote!

It's the old rock and hard place situation, I suppose.
Not a nice place to be.

I admire you for spending it to have a decent car. I'm not sure I would.
