Was following a chavved up 106 yesterday and teh back lights had been painted body colour. Not only was one of the bulbs out but it was very tricky to see when they were on. It was only because I was looking at them thinking how **** it looked that I stopped when the driver stopped sharply on a roundabout.

Had I hit them from behind I would have used teh painted lights and the fact you couldn't see the illumination through the paint to dump the blame straight back on her doorstep

Funny should mention that saw 2 cars last week with painted lights and thought the same - cant see the brake lights working.
Only going to see more cars with dodgy mods / stupid additions on until get rid of this current administrations obsession with speeding been the route of all evil, and replace it with police cars on the road, that pull drivers for this and other silly thing such as fogs and sidelights on.

I think you would have to really push your insurance company to fight if rear ended a car with body coloured lights as they just seem to be interested in a quick settlement.
Wrong morally I know, but unfortunately the truth these days.

I saw a mk 6 purple escort cab yesterday with black painted rear lights, not with black tint either, with black paint.
Couldn't see his lights at all, how pathetic.

How do these cars get through an MOT ? Oh forgot ! They probably have no MOT, Road Tax or Insurance !

Have you seen the ones who use black tights stretched over the lights?

I was thinking the same. But then I'd be surprised if any insurance companies would allow such mods to be declared because it compromises safety of other drivers. But then I wonder how many do declare them, if they don't it just means their insurance is invalid.

Normally if the police spot these cars they should stop them. It's no different to driving without any brake lights.

It's not just body-coloured tailights that cause problems. I've seen dozens of aftermarket lenses fitted with just one bulb illuminated when there should be four, or a sidelight bulb used for a brake, or nothing working at all. This morning, I followed a Focus down the A1 and both his rear lights weren't working. As I rolled past him in heavy traffic, I spotted aftermarket front headlight bulbs - it looks like they'd probably caused the rears to blow. Useless.

I agree. The other day I saw a car pass me that had a sheet of polythene over what should have been the drivers side window. What the hell did he do when he came to a junction, open the door & peer out?
