    Ebay problem

Just purchased a bumper off ebay, the bumper arrived, it's the correct fitment, but not the correct spec, I needed one with parking sensor holes which is pictured, and in the description is "Genuine part. Comes exactly as pictured.", Item was £40 and postage was £25.

I've emailed the seller to see what he says, since I can't through onto his mobile number after many attempts! In the event of a dispute through ebay, am I going to get the full amount back, or just the price of the item?

The best possible solution would be for him to send the correct bumper and pick up the wrong one, but that's going to cost him £50 is postage(based on what he charged me), so I doubt he would agree to that.

    Thoughts?

Refund a % to keep both parties happy and drill the holes for the sensors?

Or is there clips on the back that you need?

Parking sensors are factory moulded for the specific sensors, so drilling it is not an option, plus the bumper I was after was partially colour coded, they sent me a fully colour coded one, so more work.

Guy just replied back an email to me to say his phone is broke, and that he will get back to me.

    Fingers crossed.

Why does he need to get back to you??? That would've irritated me already.
It all sounds pretty straight forward to me.... He's mis-sold something so what's there to think about? My money back please, thanks!
Or he should at least let you know what he's thinking about.

Is he just a geezer selling a bumper, or is he a breaker/parts yard?
If he's a breaker/parts yard then in my experience they're pretty good with refunds and will possibly offer full refund and write-off the bumper.
If he's just a normal guy with a bumper trying to shift it then good luck.

    Ahh right ok.

Good luck. Hopefully he'll sort something out.

This has crossed my mind, but 'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt. I've done many ebay transactions, this is the first time I've had any problems.

Looks like a breaker of some sort based on his feedback and items he's selling

To be fair, he's replied, so that's a start!

This is it, if it's going to cost me £25 to send it back to get 40, then it's the paypal disputes button for a full refund! I will come accross as a bad ebayer, but hey, I didn't do anything wrong!?

I would not expect him to give you a full refund (on your initial costs) which will mean dispute. You will have to pay return postage costs unless perhaps you can prove he mis advertised it.. maybe.. Make sure you send it back with insurance via a signed for service - this is crucial.

Happened to me, a sketchy breaker insisted the slam panel he supplied would fit the car but panel was clearly for a pre face type L (i could see the difference between the two!!) and insisted i was wrong etc.. On return, he claimed it was damaged in transit (BS) hoping to side step refunding me no doubt (although i had bubble wrapped it too well for it to be damaged). Likely hood is, he snapped it on return in an attempt to keep the cash (he sent me pics). As it turned out, ebay ruled in my favour and refunded me (perhaps as this guy had such poor feedback and had been 'convicted before' - that counts a lot) Anyway, i received my money back and also a payout from the carriers insurance company a few months later which i duly refunded ofc.

if he is a business seller, and the item is not 'as described', then you are entitled to a full refund including the original postage cost. you will be responsible for return postage cost though. dont accept anything less than this, as you will get this as a minimum if you go through the resolution centre.

ive been there many times as seller and buyer. ive managed to get the return postage paid for aswell a few times, point out to the seller that you dont want to be out of pocket for his mistake, and use feedback as leverage if necessary

and as mentioned above, make sure you send it back recorded

Looks like I'm getting somewhere, he's sending a courier to pick it up tomorrow and offering me a full refund!

So how does the refund work? does he just send the money back via Paypal, or do I need to do something?

Thats good, he sounds reasonable. He has to refund it which he will do via paypal, you dont have to do anything.

^ I was thinking about that but they dont have paperwork these days, just a scanner, so ask for the tracking number/order number/proof of collection etc.

EDIT : maybe paperwork in the form of a sticker with a barcode on it..

they have a scanner yes but they also have the paperwork
or even i written recipte signed by the driver with invoice and tracking numbers on there
as he said the seller is sending the courier so he will have to attach barcode on so he can scan it

Interesting, I will see how this pans out, I still have paypal on my side, so I shouldn't have anything to worry about!

    WOOHOO!

Full refund received this morning! I requested a receipt on the pick up of bumper, they could only provide me with a written one as a receipt of pickup with no tracking number on it.

Guess I worried about nothing, all the horror stories I have read in the past just got me worried.

Nice one, i have also just had my money 'released' from PayPal following a ''unauthorized transaction'' made on a BB9360 i sold. The buyers account was hacked (pole dancer who claimed ''hes done this before, was diamond earnings last time...'' so all sounded fishy!!) I even tried to get her to make a statement to the police but she never replied to me on that, so either didnt trust me or had something to hide.. Anyway, the delivery address was changed to a university student campus. (clever as means you can turn up to halls or residence front desk, flash a fake id and collect the parcel).

Fortunately i sent (as i always do) via signed for mail so received the full £220 after 2 weeks investigation which ironically worked out better for me as was only worth 170ish used once.

The ebay seller has been quite helpful to be honest, he's sourced the correct one for me, but my mate did a quick plastic weld repair on original bumper for half the cost, and my uncle was happy and drove away, so unsure if he wants the full repair done?

There's only one bumper on ebay suitable, and it's not cheap!
