    Racism, racism blah blah blah

I'm getting pretty cheesed off with hearing about racism. If you say anything about black people then your racist but I switch on the tele and see The Black awards, then you've got the MOBO's. Can you imagine the White awards or the MOWO's? I don't care what colour somebody is, I just hate the hypocritical racism!

What's even funnier, at the Black awards they discussed racism, now I'm totally confused, the camera man was White, looks like he was being forced to do it if I'm honest!

So what's wrong with there being the MOBO awards?
You need to understand what it's for before you start to talk negatively about it.

The MOBOs (music of black origin) is in recognition of a particular genre(s) of music. No different to the country music awards, etc.

It's an awards ceremony for singers of music with black origins i.e. soul, RNB, hip hop etc etc.
It's not exclusively for black people, hence plenty of white people having won MOBO awards. Jessie J for example, being the winner of the most MOBO awards this year.

You may have a point to make somewhere but so far you're point is weak.

So is it just black related stuff you're ranting about, or does it stretch to Asian TV channels, awards, etc, or any other ethnic based celebrations?

I don't think he said they discussed racism on the MOBOs, he just used the mobos as another example to prove his "point".
The racism was discussed on "The Black Awards"... whatever that is.

Yeah it wasn't the mobo's but The Black awards.
I wasn't after an argument, was sharing my annoyance that's all. Il agree my points weak if you show me The White awards, you won't. Same goes for music of White origin.
As for Jesse J, I'm sure somebody of black origin has sung a song written by somebody who happens to be White and done well, it's irrelevant to me, I love Michael Jackson.
Now il say it again because the waters seem to muddy very quickly here, I am not racist.

Ps ads, the second quote was me just being silly.

I have to say I'm at a point in my life where I've become immune to colour. Despite growing up in the shadow of xenophobic generations I have to say that I try and judge people on merit. I have found a developed sense of richness entering my life by exploring other cultures with different foods, ideals, perspectives. Let's face it, the British are one of the most thuggish and undesirable races where the social fabric of our society is pretty broken at present. I'll be honest, I don't care less what events people hold, as long as the intent of the celebration is wholesome and for the good of all. What I take exception with is where people utilise race to manipulate situations to their own end (whatever their nationality). The race card is cheap and damages any long term hope of an integrated society.

My grandparents are Germans living in America, and my mother is English but she lives with my American raised father in Spain. I just happen to live in England. What that makes me god only knows.

Thing is, the whites have oppressed nations, taken over and pilfered resources, ruled as Empires in lands we probably had no business being in, and have been involved in segregation, Apartheid, slave trade..... If people of Black origin want to celebrate their culture and musical heritage after what some have been subjected to over the years then it's all good in my book.

If I'm honest mate, I'm struggling to fully understand your point or points, and after reading your continual attempts at trying to be funny with "oppressed white iPhone", "cotton picking" and the white camera man being forced to be at the black awards, I've kinda lost interest.

But if your point is that you don't like people playing the race card, then I'm totally with you on that.
But equally, I don't like it when people say something that can be seen as "racist", and then when someone gets offended and claims racism they are brushed off and accused of just playing the race card.

I do think white people get a bit of a rough ride when it comes to "racism" though. There are so many things they can't say about other races without getting called a racist, whereas other races seem to be allowed (in the media, on TV, etc) to say what they like about white people.
    Example: the film White Chicks.
Now if that was a couple of white guys instead wearing dark makeup and basing an entire film on pretending to be black/Indian/etc then there'd be hell to pay probably.
    That's not right.

In my job I sit down and talk with about 10-15 people a day, every day brings different people.

Now I find it astonishing that some people still have hateful views towards people of other races. That hatred is rarely based on personal experience, but generalisation of a race. Some of those people refuse to see someone who is black/asian, and they get short shrift from me. I am there to help them, but I get them out the door as soon as I hear them being hateful towards other races.

And it isn't just white men or women who are racist. I hear black people moaning about the Pakistani's, Indian people moaning about the Pakistanis, and Pakistanis moaning about the Indians. I hear racism towards the Polish.

These comments are NEVER solicited, I never discuss or prompt any discussion about race, it has nothing to do with my job, and is not a subject I am interested in, but these hateful people feel it is right for them to blame all the countries problems on people from other races.

Most start with "I am not racist but...." An example would be "I used to be busy at work, and I am not racist but....".

But astonishingly, some people just start being racist, no apology, they just bring up their hatred racist views, generally when discussing the state of the economy.

    I am a Bank Manager.

And I feel that the OP is raising an issue about "positive discrimination", and in my day to day experience I am sad to say it IS needed. There is still a lot of racism, and any schemes or programs that are designed to assist all people in being given a chance in life, then I am all for it.

We all deserve a fair crack of the whip but if you are Black or Asian there will be less chances for you because of peoples hatred. So we need positive discrimination.

Given the base rate of interest, and then comparing that with the banks lending rates, asking for a loan of greater than a quid is probably financial suicide!!!! I've planted a quid in the back garden as there's a greater probability a money tree might grow than there is for the rate of return in my savings account showing some value.

I would like to add, I am not one of those city Bankers who earned millions in bonus payments one year, and watched as all the money they supposedly made disappeared in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

The striped suit and red braces brigade must still be nursing their aching sides from the laughter of destabilising the entire global financial house of cards, and walking off with most of the cash as they exploit the fall out. These corporations are the new 'Rome', and the likes of JPMorgan et al have a lot to answer for as they corrupt the path of Governments and the uninformed working masses with sub standard financial investment tools.

I take no issue with the high street banking sector per say, despite their ability to turn catastrophic losses into supernormal profit in no time at all (that kind of performance switch makes me wonder if the industry is recalling offering value to its customers). Once the supermarket banks start to flex a bit we may get to see some better competition, but the people who work in branch are just regular honest hard working guys trying to earn a living. It's the system itself that's flawed.

When I first started in the Bank it was run by Bankers. Our Chief Executive had started off as tea boy and with guile, intelligence, and dedication he worked his way to the top. He understood Banking, the risks involved, the "nature of the beast".

When the new "Bankers" took over as CEO of top Banks they were not Bankers. They had no fear, they had not been Bankers during the last recession, they did not understand the basic principles of risk in Banking. This made them the "darlings" of the city, because they were not afraid of taking risks, of borrowing huge sums of money in order to buy market share at a loss, to expand beyond reasonable boundaries buy buying other huge corporations, by maxing out the "credit card".

This guy is a prime example; Andy Hornby - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
These are the type of people who ruined the economy. They were driven by success, and huge bonus payments that would make most men embarrassed. They started to believe they were infallible, and morals quickly evaporated as they pursued greatness.

Two of the biggest Banks in the UK were Royal Bank of Scotland, and Halifax Bank of Scotland, the then Chancellor was G Brown, Scottish, the Prime Minister was T Blair, Scottish. Did the two most powerful men in our country get a little bit carried away with pride in Scotland and allow, support and encourage these two Scottish banks to try and take over the world?

The Bankers that complained about this excessive risk taking were ridiculed. For heavens sake, even the Chancellor of the Exchequer was backing the risk taking, and ridiculing those who said it was dangerous. (V Cable).

What goes around comes around, those responsible for this horrible situation will pay one way or another.

I can sleep at night. Can they?

    This is easy...
Racism has been around since the year dot, its part of life. The government will tell you they are against it............until they want you to go and fight a war with some poor oppressed nation that usually will be at least 100 steps down the arms ladder than us ( just to be safe). Most people who moan about racism actually perpetuate the myth that it is worse than it is, maybe thats its aim but left to their own devices, most people get on with everyone else. Its only the media ( daily Mail) and government ( endless pointless anti racist legislation) that want to keep the topic in the news.
Interesting item on QI this week about the Monkey that was ship wrecked of the North coast 500 years ago and the locals thought it was a French man such was the racist nonsense spread by the leaders even then....
When i get wound up about racism these days i think 2 things
    !/ its human nature
    2/ I think of this

I just opened a new bottle of Worcester Sauce to put on my angus fillet steak and it really tasted of fish. Yes, I know it contains anchovies but it was really strong, stronger than usual. Is it a new recipe?

Yep, totally irrelevent, just like accusations of racism in todays society.

Haha! My best mate is black, and he always says every White person is a closet racist. Don't worry, I've put the iron ball back around his ankle now.... (joke)

I think racism is more often than not people being over sensitive. Calling some one a P### is no different to calling someone a scouser (not there's anything wrong with scousers :P). And it is very one sided. If a White person attacks someone who isn't White, it's instantly a racist attack... Then a non White person attacks a White person, and the White person was mugged.

The countries gone crazy. It needs migrant workers, it would not operate without them as they do the jobs many Brits, White, black yellow what ever are to idle to do. However integration hasn't worked, and neither side can be blamed fornthat! so a new approach is needed, much like Australia.

Howeverim afraid you cant fight facts.... Make what you will of that.

I think people have to be very careful when it comes down to racism. Fact is it still remains. Nowhere near as bad as it was but still there. Unless people have been subjected to it its unfair to comment. I've been in pubs where ive been bumped into and started on and got in fights over with. Is it all people, no, is it just white or blacks browns etc no. Its how you react to it that matters. However when people say its not an issue or bla bla bla, thats not a valid fair point about a very serious issue.

True and our underpaid poor footballers seem to like crossing the line...seen by a lot of influential people, they should be struck off IMO

at the end of the day it isnt the early 2oth century anymore. racism is and should be a thing of the past.
why should anyone really give a crap about where someone is from or what colour they are, racism doesnt make sense. racism is for the uneducated.
for now, we should look back on it and laugh and move on

Whether I put blah blah or etc etc, I didn't say it wasn't a serious matter, my rant was about hypocrisy in racism. I know racism is a terrible thing and would love to see it irradiated, can't see it happening in my lifetime. We all need to act like children, they don't see colour or creed, we as a people breed racism.
The pc brigade need to relax a little or maybe they to be balanced, maybe they're the people I'm annoyed at.

And I wish people would elaborate on a possible disagreement instead of just disliking a thread, how am I meant to know whats possibly upset you, my grammar, my use of the word cheese?

    Cheers Kai

I dislike most of what you have said and how you have said it, to be honest. I just couldn't be bothered to 'dislike' your posts because too much of what you have written or think is funny/a joke just made me think you are a bit of a <something negative> who's not worth getting into a proper debate with.

Now you're brushing off people who have made GOOD points as the "PC brigade" (which is another cheap way out, similar to when people brush off claims of racism as 'playing the race card').

I don't think you have to be a rocket scientist to know what you have posted that has "upset" some people.

Maybe you don't have a problem with colour, I don't know you; but reading bits of all of your posts in this thread it certainly sounds like you probably do a bit deep down.

Your welcome to your opinion, the problem is that your never truly going to know somebody from a forum, the rant thread is on here and I used it for what I believe a genuine reason, it wasn't to upset anybody and for anyone that is upset I apologise.

As for the PC brigade, is wasn't aimed at anyone who has replied, it's the people who decide what we can and can't say, whether it's racist or not, if they deem it offensive they want to stop using them, whiter than white, black Mark and accident black spot are a few examples.

As for your last comment, if it makes you feel better thinking that then I can live with that, maybe you know me better than I know myself.

You're right, I don't know you, I said that. But from reading your posts on a topic that is always going to be a sensitive one, the way you put across your points were always going to rub some people up the wrong way.
Maybe if spoken it wouldn't have, but in plain text things can sound different to how they are intended.

My bad, I thought you were talking about posters in this thread.
I agree with what you say about it being silly not being able to use those examples of terms you gave, BUT I do think some of what the "PC brigade" deem to be offensive is correct and shouldn't be used.
For example, I've heard tooooo many people try to justify the use of the word "paki" when referring to someone who is Asian. Use of this word can never be "OK" for so many reasons. The main reasons being that in the 80s/90s it was majorly used in a negative way, and even people who weren't around in the 80s/90s know this.
So I think the people who still use the term and think it is ok should show a little common sense and take this into account, and see that it really isn't ok.
That's just one example of many where I think its good for people to be told what they can and can't ("should and shouldn't" is probably a better way of saying it) say.

Mate, its nothing to do with making me feel better because, with respect, you are nothing to me. Its was just my opinion on you, based on what you had written.

Although, to be fair, you're later posts are easier on the eye. Probably why they haven't been 'disliked'.

I grew up in the US, (I moved to the UK when I was 12) and my best friends were black, in fact I was the minority white kid. I used to go home with my best mate and wait with his family until my parents picked me up later in the day as they both worked.
My friends family were quite old and they used to tell stories of the old days, and of their families struggles. This is maybe why I liked reading John Steinbeck novels while I grew up.
My friends father told me how his father used to be made fun of. White guys used to offer him a nickel or a quarter and he would always take the nickel, the white guys would ridicule him saying he was dumb and didn't know the difference. But he knew the day he took the quarter the game would stop. When he passed away they found sacks of nickels up in the roof space, nearly enough to pay for my friends father to go to college.

When I was about 10 I heard a story about how a black guy was attacked because of his colour, a nearby store owner came out to help him, he was white. Later that day he was also attacked, put into a trunk and thrown into the river.

Couldn't understand it then as a kid and still cant understand it now, and I'm 35 years older.

you all missed the point, we are all conditioned to hate each other, regardless of colour, thats what the TV is designed to do to you all, hence I don't watch the Tv or have a Licence for one too!

    Tv = Tell-Lies-Vision
BBC = British Brain Washing Co-Operation

Also if you dont like what MOBO stands for then don't watch it, simple as really,

And Jews, they are not the ones to be blamed, I used to blame them until i learnt to see past what was being portrayed by the false Jews who are hidding behind the Jewish folk, come on dig a bit deeper, google up "False Jews"

Its also the times we live in. A good friend of ours came out and told us he had no time for black people because they were lazy sods with no intention of working, only taking benefit payments and complaining about how they are treated. Well its his opinion and he is perfectly entitled to it but to be honest that sums up a lot of races living in and around the uk doesnt it ?
