winter toy?

Well for a start you cant call a suzuki sj or a tigra 1.6 "nippy" I will say that the nissan is'nt a bad car though, and reliable!! How much you want to spend? The list could be endless.

The XR2 is a reasonably fun little thing. I went up the back of and wrote off a 3 week old one back in 1989, when I had a Mk2 Escort.

A couple of friends had them. Not spectacularly quick, but handle OK, and very cheap to fix/maintain. Some out there with TurboTechnics conversions pushing ~150-160bhp.

The Primera GT is a terrific car for the money. Won't go wrong. Pleasantly rapid, and solid on the road, with comfort as well. I nearly bought an ex bosses company car that I had driven many times 10 ten years ago, but got a Mazda 323 GT instead, as it was marginally cheaper, both to buy and insure.

If you can find a good 3 door Mazda 323 GT grab it as until my S3, mine was the best car I have owned by a mile. Finally sold it with 198k on the clock, with my dad owning it up to 109k. Only had CV joints and a new radiator in all that time, bar normal wear parts. Was even still on the original clutch!!

Nissan or Toyota is good. I think they are good in winter. Mostly the parts are not that hard to find incase you got problems with it.

MK2 golf gti

A few years ago i was driving around and saw an sj410 for sale on the side of the road for about £500 and thought why not buy one for the winter and keep my TT in the garage for when i want to drive a real car.

In theory i still think this was a cracking idea although by the time id driven the sj410 home i knew it was a bad idea. The piece of cr=P only did about 45 MPH with the bigger tyres on and was never driven again. Sat on my drive for four months untill i could be bothered to ebay it.

The only advantage was some loon from Sweden bought it and gave me £1000 for it and travelled there and back on the ferry. Must have taken him forever.
