Had my offer and my compo should be cleared in my bank within the next 2 weeks so im looking for a toy for me and vic

what you reckon to these? obviously im looking at pretty nippy non turbo cars, after the current problems with the audi i think im better off not having a turbo car, going keep the audi off the road & covered up through winter and buy a new toy ;-)

Well for a start you cant call a suzuki sj or a tigra 1.6 "nippy" I will say that the nissan is'nt a bad car though, and reliable!! How much you want to spend? The list could be endless.

The XR2 is a reasonably fun little thing. I went up the back of and wrote off a 3 week old one back in 1989, when I had a Mk2 Escort.

A couple of friends had them. Not spectacularly quick, but handle OK, and very cheap to fix/maintain. Some out there with TurboTechnics conversions pushing ~150-160bhp.

The Primera GT is a terrific car for the money. Won't go wrong. Pleasantly rapid, and solid on the road, with comfort as well. I nearly bought an ex bosses company car that I had driven many times 10 ten years ago, but got a Mazda 323 GT instead, as it was marginally cheaper, both to buy and insure.

If you can find a good 3 door Mazda 323 GT grab it as until my S3, mine was the best car I have owned by a mile. Finally sold it with 198k on the clock, with my dad owning it up to 109k. Only had CV joints and a new radiator in all that time, bar normal wear parts. Was even still on the original clutch!!

    Tigra - Are you gay?
SJ - Have you a brain?

    Cheers,

    Alistair

If I had 1200 to spend on a second car I reckon it'd be a Mk2 16v GTI. 1200 should buy one which, while not particularly low mileage, would be pretty aesthetically and mechanically tidy, and rust/rot free...

I'd take ages looking for the perfect one, and enjoy every second of it. I'd buy it, and enjoy every second of the journey to pick it up, and the way back. I'd then spend every spare second trying my best to get it closer and closer to factory nick (with a bit of time spent stood around looking at it, and a little spent throwing it around country lanes). In short, I think it's something I'd enjoy a lot...

With about 140bhp in a car that's probably somewhere between 1000Kg and 1100Kg, they're probably still a lot quicker than a lot of other 'nippy toys'...

    Regards,

    Rob.

Nissan or Toyota is good. I think they are good in winter. Mostly the parts are not that hard to find incase you got problems with it.

A few years ago i was driving around and saw an sj410 for sale on the side of the road for about 500 and thought why not buy one for the winter and keep my TT in the garage for when i want to drive a real car.

In theory i still think this was a cracking idea although by the time id driven the sj410 home i knew it was a bad idea. The piece of cr=P only did about 45 MPH with the bigger tyres on and was never driven again. Sat on my drive for four months untill i could be bothered to ebay it.

The only advantage was some loon from Sweden bought it and gave me 1000 for it and travelled there and back on the ferry. Must have taken him forever.
