    Insurance Claim

There was an add in the Telegraph a while back from BMW saying that if your car does need work done on it post accident you can tell the insurance company who repairs it as long as you get a couple of quotes. Does anyone know this to be true by UK law or does it differ from one insurance company to another?

Has anyone had the miss-fortune to have had to make a claim with Privilege or some other competitive insurance company e.g. Tesco, did they make you use one of their "repair specialists"?

As my insurance is up for renewal and this is my first new car, if I am unlucky I don't want it going to someone who doesn't know what they are doing, ie not Audi.

Thing that worried me was this text which I found on the Privilege web site under Motor -> Claims info

"If the damage to your car is covered, we'll even arrange for one of our network repairers, to collect your car, repair it and return it back to you cleaned inside and out."

WIth my insurance (ultimately through Allied Dunbar) if you use their aproved repair outfit they will provide a replacement casr whilst yours is in the shop. If not, fine but no car.

I explained to them I needed to get my car repaired by a VAG approved workshop to maintin my warranty and they were fine with that.

    Re: Insurance Claim

My insurance companies gave me the choice of where to have it repaired and as long as the quote is acceptable they have no problems. My BMW has been repaired twice under two diffreent insurance companies both allowing me to use my local BMW garage/bodyshop.

The same also seems to be here in Holland, where I had a choice of repairer and in this case went with my local Audi bodyshop.

That sounds fair, I am happy as long as they give me the option. Thanks for your info.

Sorry forgot to say the BMW is a UK car and the Audi is a Dutch car, which seems to show that insurance companies have a general policy on allowing you to choose. having said that it does depend on the price/cost of the car, as my Peugeot had to go to an allocated repairer, but it was only worth 3.5k.
