Autocar have this released news of Audi's intentions to reveal its first luxury off-road vehicle at the Detroit Motor Show. Currently is being named the Pikes Peak. The production model is likely to be named the A7.
Prices are expected to start at £32k, with a seven seat layout (similar to Volvo XC90). The top engine will be a re-worked version of the twin-turbocharged 4.2 litre V8 used by the RS6. It will be enhanced using Audi's FSI technology, delivering a Porsche Cayenne Turbo-trumping 500bhp and thumping 465lb ft of torque from just 2000rpm.
Audi claims it will sprint to 62mph in an amazing 5.0secs (faster than an RS6 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif) and reach a typically limited 155mph.
However, showroom engines will be a little more subdued, using 3.0litre V6 or turbodiesal. More upmarket models will use the naturally apsirated 4.2litre V8 and an all new 4.0 litre V8 turbodiesal set for the A8 later this year.
