In the mix of good cars I would like to buy when back to France, I am considering buying a Porsche.
My budget is around 20k and that can give me any C2 I want on the continent, even an old 996 (I'll increase the budget slightly).
the thing is, I have heard bad stories about the 996 reliability and here is a list of known problems I found:
1. RMS failure
2. Intermediate shaft bearing failure
3. Dropped liners
4. Overheating cylinders (caused by the incorrect use of 100% coolant, not a 50/50 mixture)
5. Variocam actuator failure
6. Breather housing oil leaks

Not being a mechanic can anyone enlighten me with simple words as to what is what and how bad it is?

Or shall I just forget about 996 or even 993 and just get a great 964 (turbo?)?
My aim is that this car will be my pride and joy with lots of feeling, but reliable! It has to be very quick also.

Thanks
Steph
