Castle Coombe Trackday insurance

Just thinking, something I read on Scoobynet about a group deal they got together with one of the specialist trackday insurers for a club event they had - should we try and sort something for the Castle Coombe trackday? I, plus maybe quite a few others will be looking for insurance cover of some sort...

Duncan I'd be interested in that, do you know what sort of cover they were offered and for how much, including excess ??

Castle Coombe Track can provide insurance via a underwriter at Lloyds, please call Maria on 01249 782417, and ask for the details, dont know how competitive it will be though.

Re: Castle Coombe Trackday insurance

Just out of interest and to give a guide to prices / cover, here is what Bookatrack.com quote for trackday insurance.

C1 = Option
C2 = Sum Assured
C3 = Excess
C4 = Assured less excess
C5 = Premium

1 2000 250 1750 42.50
2 5000 750 4250 80
3 8000 1000 7000 117.50
4 11000 1250 9750 155
5 14000 1500 12500 192.50
6 17000 2000 15000 230
7 22000 2000 20000 305
8 27000 2000 25000 380
9 3000 750 2250 42.50
10 7500 2250 5250 80
11 12000 3000 9000 117.50
12 16000 3750 12250 155
13 20000 4500 15500 192.50
14 25000 6000 19000 230
15 32000 6000 26000 305
16 38000 6000 32000 380

Obviously a balance needs to be struck between adequete cover and premium.

Re: Castle Coombe Trackday insurance

I just called Maria at Castle Coombe, she put me on to Competition Car Insurance, who are the same people Joshie has posted the numbers for from bookatrack.

I got a quote which was higher than the figures though, so I suggest people get quotes.

Note that you do not need to insure the whole value of your car, the will cover 50% of its value and above.

For info I gave my car value as 24,000 and to insure 50% is 194, the excess is 15% 2000. An extra driver was 74. I will happily pay that for 10,000 of cover for the day.

Re: Castle Coombe Trackday insurance

Sounds pretty fair to me...anyway, I searched around and the SIDC (Subaru club) got these rates with Competition Car Insurance (nicked from the sidc forum) in October last year - Hard to make out the scales but on first view it seems a bit cheaper, which is why if maybe 20 people get together we might save 30-40 quid perhaps (somewhere)????

Right pasted from SIDC Forum:
"To give you an idea of rates I have listed the following, but please speak with either Chris, Georgina or Nik at Eggar Lawson on 0115 - 941 - 5255 and they will go through the scale in depth

SUM ASSURED 5000 7500 12000 16000
EXCESS 750 2250 3000 3750
COVER 4250 5250 9000 12250

PRICE 55.00 55.00 80.00 105.00"

Re: Castle Coombe Trackday insurance

Well I am certainly up for it.
I'd be happy with about 150 ish quid.
Ideally I'd like cover for the full amount (say 18k) but would be happy with 10ks worth of cover, as I guess it is unlikely that I'll do that much damage.

Are you happy to arrange Dunc? If not, then let me know and I'll look into it myself.

I guess the first step would be to get an idea of numbers.

Re: Castle Coombe Trackday insurance

I would prefer if someone else could attempt to arrange it...I'm no salesman...

You are right though Dan, we need some numbers

Could JRE put the list back up somewhere in the Meets section perhaps, of who has paid etc, like we used to have???

Only kidding - the point is though that 10K goes a long way to easing the pain and taking the pressure off. The last think you want on your mind as you approach Quarry at 120MPH is concern about rolling your precious wheels

Re: Castle Coombe Trackday insurance

Ok, I'll look into it.

I just phoned Eggar Lawson.
Spoke to Chris. (0115 941 5255)

He mentioned that he could quote for public liability too (thought this might be of interest to johneroberts)

They won't/can't offer any bulk buy discount.

He also mentioned that castle coombe is the track they get mosts claims for due to limited run offs etc... Hence premiums for this track are loaded.

The things that affect cost are:
1) Car value
2) The track (obviously this will be constant for all of us)
3) Tyres (anything other than road tyres carry a premium)
4) Modifications (10% loading for most mods)

Interestingly driver age, experience etc.. play no part.

For me (S4, No Mods, worth 18k) the prices are:

To insure 10k with 2k excess - 155
To insure 18k with 2.7k excess - 297

The above prices are for just one driver and cover accident damage only (not transmission or engine problems)

The minimum percentage of your cars value you can insure is 50% (so 9k in my case)
Chris recomends insuring between 50-75% (he tells me it is unlikely that you'll cause more damage than this)

Hope this helps.

Sum Assured 7,500 12,000 16,000 20,000
Excess 2,250 3,000 3,750 4,500

The cover is for On Event Accidental Damage and covers:

Re: Castle Coombe Trackday insurance

If you guys are only going to do one track day in a year then this may be worth while but the figures you are quoting seem high compared to the extra premium that you'd get on normal insurance to cover track days. I know not many companies do this but I use Roadster Insurance who are a broker which ends up being a "Classic Policy" with Royal and Sun. I get fully comp on road and on track for my modded TT for 1080 all in.
Just a thought.

True, but my insurance company won't cover track days.

Also remember that if I wreck my car at a track day, and I used my road insurance I'd loose my no claims.

Getting an extra policy for just one day might be pricey, but if I have an accident it won't affect my no-claims

You're not gonna lose anything by calling and asking. Perhaps suggesting they become the recommended insurer for the forum may encourage them to accept S3's etc
