8P3 Owners with Xenons and LED DRL's please help

Can anyone confirm something for me

When your led drls are on, are they the same brightness from all angles, or does it vary from what angle you look at them.

Ie are they at their brightest when you stand directly in front of the car, or slightly off centre etc.

Just need to clear something up and would appreciate the help

    Cheers

It's dependent on the angle and distance from the bumper, also time of day matters too, the further you walk away from the middle of bumper the brighter they get...

That sounds like it will be at it's brightest then when you in front of the lens. Makes sense to me :0

Would I be correct in presuming then that when viewed from the side, they are very dim?

    Cheers so far fella

Yes, they can be quite dim from the side, but you can also code the brightness via vcds as well. I can relate to your question as I have just completed facelift 2010 S3 to 06 Sport SB with Adaptives and at one point I was on my hands and knees (no pun intended) to make sure both LED's had the correct brightness on both sides.

Yeap when I fitted my adaptives which I always wanted thought they were great & whenever I use them, they always without a split second thought, make me smile from cheek to cheek, they're very cool.

No it was not Phil, had Xenon with halogen full beam, glad I had Xenons as it makes it a lot easier as if not you'd have to retro auto levelling. I'm not as knowledgable as some people on here but if I can help you with anything just give us a shout!

was just curious as my system is primedfor cornering anyway, so did you switch to a facelift light module? or did you manage to get away with a prefacelift?

Primed as in your wired it incase it has them, bearing in mind the bixenon & adaptives are different wiring slightly.

& which module you referring to, the power/ballast module on the headlight itself or another?

yeah know that, getting a set of adaptives to go with the car, want to keep it the same spec etc plus seems it would be the least hassle with only a region coding change (i hope)

Surely if you quoted region coding, you know what you meant by it me old cockle as I havnt got a clue except for setting something to country specific or lhd/rhd on the car.

its like country specific, all it saves is a rewire of the plug pins tbh as both lights were adaptive and both have drls and are bixenon, so in theory it should work (im hoping i dont even have to do it)

Well I know for sure bixenon & bixenon adaptives had to be wired differently mate as I have both sets on my cars, so coding didnt resolve that.

Phil I hate to say it mate but I think you'll definitely need to rewire, especially to get the LED's to work if you're doing facelift lights. I know coz I had to!

    ok next question peoples

Exactly how bright are your leds when viewed from close (ie 1 meter away) at the optimium position for brightness?

I mean, Do the led's when you look at them directly burn holes in your retinas? Or is it not possible to look directly at the internal led as it is hidden by the refractor lense.

    Thank you

I would say they are very bright from even 2 to 3 mtrs away at full brightness, next day after I fitted the headlights with the DRL's on at dusk, the reflections on buildings and other cars at a distance made me think I had my headlights on, you can look at the LED's directly at full brightness but it's something I would not recommend at close distance.

Around where I live there is a chav who has a facelift A3 with DRL's and I don't think he uses his headlights only his DRL's!

Best compare yours with a facrory fitted one if you're having difficulties with adjustment.

if I had one handy to compare to that would be great. But unfortunately I live in Norfolk, and the tractors round here haven't got up to speed yet on drl's.

Thanks for your help Dean, that has clarified another question for me. Yes the led's will burn your eyeballs if you try and stare them out LMFAO
