Convenience key only for the front doors, seriously?!

Little did I know that the convenience key is only usable for the front doors of the A3 which I took delivery yesterday. Sigh.

The Q5 that I traded in has convenience key and all the doors can be opened by pulling the door handles.

    Seriously?!

Is this just for Australia or the same in the rest of the world?

Not sure if it's the same as for the standard key or not, but there is a setting which allows you to unlock only one door or all doors at once. Might be worth checking the MMI so see what yours is set to.
Also, could it be the child lock setting?

It works for the boot too, though, but I agree with you.

Hi Ali, I'm referring to pulling the doors open without pressing the keys. When I'm carrying my baby, the first door that I wanted to open is the back door. But with this A3, I had to pull the front door open first to unlock all the doors before pulling the back door.

With Q5, all I have to do is pull any doors that I want to open.

Front doors only I'm afraid and this cannot be changed in any MMI setting, not helpful when you've been used to a car that came with all four as standard. It's all in the brochure though.

Nope. Nothing to do with childlock as the door is opened from outside.

Sigh. Why didn't they do it for all the doors? I didn't know this until today. I assume it works on all doors because all the doors have that little square on the handles.

Looks like Cuke2u has got it nailed. I think the only option now is to see if it can be changed in VCDS.

Depends if the doors actually have sensors and not a handle that just matches the front ones in looks..

Does seem a bit harsh shelling out for the option but it being front doors only.

I tend to open a back door first about 1/3 of the time so that would really bug me.

There is more to it then just opening the doors, however I also use the rear drivers door but all I do is walk up to the car stroke the drivers handle then open the rear door. It takes less then a second more of my time..

All cars come with the plastic square on the handles I think, convenience key or not. It's just cost saving, though the brochure and online configurator says this is the case, so you are getting what you pay for. As Cuke2u does, you just have to reach slightly to one side and put your hand behind the front door handle (don't have to open it) and then open the rear one, only takes about 1 second extra.

In the S3 as well, just front doors and boot (at least the one that comes to Peru)

Thank you guys. I've gotten used to the suggestion above which is to put my hand into the front door handle without pulling the door, and then pull the rear door to open. Sucks not to have keyless entry on all doors but anyway... I can live with this.
