I'm getting paintguard on my S3 which I'm told is world class paint protection now (they have upgraded from life shine). Anyone with experience? Any views?

It'll be as ****e as all the other manufacturer proprietary offerings.
You can't beat self preservation through correct usage of paint preparation, wax and sealants for body, wheels and engine.
It'll do if you can't be ***** doing it properly yourself however.
Depends on how anal / particular you are IMHO.

Good points and I do take these things with a pinch of salt, but decided. F@&£ it, if it protects it a bit still probably worth it, so went for it anyway

I presume Audi's specialist detailers are doing it?
If so, cancel: the product will be poor, it will be poorly applied and the preparation prior to application will be equally as bad.

Find a recommended local detailer and they will do a much better, longer lasting job with a greater degree of giving a damn about your car for the same price as you are paying Audi.

Hum, it will be Audi folk doing it, are they rubbish then?

Generally, yes.

To put on any protective coating you should foam, wash, clay, dry, then apply a sealant and a wax.
I would place money on it that the Audi guys will wash, possibly dry and then without any care apply the guard.

A detailer will do all of the respective stages and do it properly for the same money as you will likely be paying Audi.
I'd class the guys that Audi employ to clean their cars as no better than those you'd find in your local shopping centre car park.

Ok thanks worth a think then...

Have a look on Pistonheads Gassing Station for your area and you will likely find detailer recommendations.

Even though it's a new car, it requires the same level of prep work that a used car would prior to applying protection and I don't think you'll get that through Audi.

I wouldn't touch that product, applied by main dealer washing monkeys with a large jobbie stick...

avoid at all costs...

I even ask my dealer not to wash my car at all when I bring it for service ...

Like the others, I'd go to a local detailer and I also instruct Audi not to wash my car when it goes in. I collected the S3 as it arrived with them from Germany :)

Find a good detailer - Audi employ some right monkeys. I don't let them wash my car.

I've heard good things about G-technic protection details.....

Because I'd do a cack job of it! I couldn't wrap a ham sandwich!

It's not difficult. £100 of kit would get you started. I found it fun when I started learning about detailing and having real pride with keeping it looking like the day I got it. Over time you improve your skills.

Doing the right things from day one (two bucket method, lambs wool mitt, good quality microfibres to dry etc) will ensure you keep swirl and marring to a minimum on the paint work. Then some good polishing / waxing done regularly you can maintain the car to a good standard.

Black paint I think needs the most attention to keep it looking good especially in sun light.

I'm having a detailer visit my car the day before I collect to do a full gtech treatment.

A little pricey yes, but if your going to pay for Audi to do a **** job, then may aswell upgrade to a very good and intensive job for not a lot extra

I can highly recommend Gtechniq.
As for doing it myself, a few years ago I would quite happily. Now I can't be *****!
