Drove to Bolton in the afternoon and there were two slight tunnels that affected things on the way! : )
Fuelly is a great way to track actual MPG if you don't want to do it manually. Interestingly my 8P DIS isn't too far off the actual, just 1mpg lower than what it is tank to tank. However when I fill up mine often says 330-350 miles remaining. Only ever see 220-260 out of it though so I wouldn't say going on miles remaining straight after fill up is the best way to work out the economy. Just my 2p.

I've just driven to bolton this morning caned it a couple of times through tunnels but I've got 37MPG so not bad. I bought the car as a solid all rounder, if I can achieve that on my daily commute I'll be very happy.

I see a guy on my way home sometimes who has an S4 and he's always trundling along in the slow lane. Some people can do that, fair play, I do love a good blast in dynamic and manual mode. It's excellent.

Back to the point though, I think fuelly will be good to see how it's going. Either way I'll be happy with 30 on mixed driving. Just a shame the tank is the size of a thimble : )

If I get 350 (or even 400!) miles out of the tank, that's fine range-wise with me - my old V6 4Motion had a 62l tank and I'd normally get 330 miles on a tank in that - more range from 7l less fuel!
Arrived: MY14 S3 Sportback (Ordered 4th Jan, build week 12 (was 13), collected 23rd April), Manual, Monsoon Grey, Black Alcantara, LED Headlights, Interior Light Pack, Comfort Pack, Audi Sound System, ACC, Parking System Plus, Tech Pack, Electronic Folding & Heated Mirrors, Through Load

Just got 312 miles out of the tank. 29.2MPG overall. Not the best but it will improve over time and ill probably get a little less heavy footed, as it's new I get to a tunnel and engage dynamic and drop the windows and floooooor it! Brilliant.

Fuelly gave me the above stats. I just ran it down to having 20 miles left in the tank and it only cost me about £60 to brim. So overall my gentleman economics is telling me it's cheaper then my old A6 diesel to run. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I get around 22mpg out of ours.

I live less than a mile from our unit and get a lot of requests from people who come down to the unit to 'show them the S3' and I generally drive it pretty hard. The only time it gets some longer distance slower driving is when I take it for development. For example on the way back from Forge it did 38mpg as it was busy so sat at a steady 75mph on the motorway most of the way back.

All in all for what I use it for, the average is outstanding really!

About 11k now. It was a tank with a lot of motorway driving and I mostly took it easy to try and get the mileage out of it.

Whatever you do please check your air conditioning unit because I drove mine home from AUDI COVENTRY and it didn't work when I tried it. I thought I was doing something wrong cos how can the Aircon on a brand new car not work?!? I then went away on holiday for 3 weeks and forgot about it. Came back then the next time I tried it of course it didn't work. Booked it in to my local branch in Plymouth and they said it had a hole in the compressor!!! £783 to fix!!!!

Audi coventry Listers basically refused to believe me and said they were unwilling to help in any way because I didn't let them know at the time and despite me explaining the circumstances they have refused any kind of help or goodwill gesture!!!

So whatever you do please check your Aircon because I'm pretty sure mine was delivered with a hole in it.

So now I'm significantly out of pocket and very upset.

    Thanks for nothing AUDI COVENTRY.

Have a look at the front of your car - the gap is huge!! This is going to be a major fault with this car. I'm very tempted to reject my car as not fit for purpose. So upset :-(

No it doesn't offend i just thought that you might want to start a thread about it so it may be easier for others to find.

I thought the dealer would fix it under warranty.

I'm getting about 300 a tank at present but it will loosen up and I won't be doing as many short journeys for my own entertainment.

I get and its great that on a long run if you want good mpg then its there for the taking but to be constantly posting up about your 400 miles per tank just means that you bought the wrong car, end of.

Is it like some kind of achievement for you to buy a fast car and drive it to be as economical as possible? I honestly don't get you're obsession with constantly getting 400 mile per tank.

I cant remember the last time I even looked at the mpg.

I checked my fuel computer and it is within 1mpg, which is remarkably accurate and a lot better than my previous Ford. High mpg achievements may be down to tail winds. Strong winds make quite a difference, head winds can take away 5mpg and tail winds can add the same. If you've ever tried riding a bike in a gale you'll know why!

Warm weather can also help as there is less friction from the lubricants. Irrespective, 46mpg from an S3 is somewhat amazing. My 2.0 TDI fails to get that on shorter journeys. You must have been going slowly!

Im with you on this one, I like to see a low MPG on my DIS. Means I am getting the most out my S3. Just as it was intended. The girl at the shell garage knows me by name now!

19.8 mpg overall after 1000 gentle miles here....
No idea why anyone would buy an S 3 for economy driving ?

Because it CAN do 30 to the gallon and you can still power about the country in it.

I'm getting 30 with mixed driving and plenty of launching, country roads and motorway.

    But that's not economy driving.

When you're getting 400 to a tank every time you fill up you bought the wrong car.

Fair point but that is economical driving to me! : )

Yeah the only way to get 400 to a tank is to clearly drive at 50 on the motorway and seemingly do only that.

The question I have is, how many miles do you actually get out of a tank. I'm not talking about what is says when you fill it, but how many from filling it to the red light coming on?

I keep posting because i started this thread, is that ok with you?

I also started it to let other ASN members know that it is possible to get good fuel consumption and a good fuel range out of a performance car and to show that Audis fuel figures CAN be achieved.

I got 390 come up as range on my last tank. I reset the counter and actually did 325 with mostly motorway driving. Not sure the range computer is very accurate

This is the question I have asked several times now but Audimad always skips this one and keeps banging on about range which is just an estimate by the DIS and not actual reality.
Mr Audimad why don't you want to know what you are actually getting per tank Seeing as you are so hell bent on economy?

Oh really, how come? Still more than enough fuel in the tank on red (more than 6L).

Have you measured how many miles you get from filling to when you next decide to fill then? I'm only intrigued to see how efficient the 8V is and the miles showing when you fill is not an accurate way of showing this.

Mr Audimad why don't you want to know what you are actually getting per tank Seeing as you are so hell bent on economy?
And the answer is "i don't care". Why have a fuel comp on your car and work it out yourself?

Maybe you just don't want to know the real economy? It's not a tough piece of maths!
