Nope, you'll come back to it and there'll be a car either side of it, the rest will still be empty. Just the way things work, nothing you can do about it!

Yup, I've parked at the far end of an almost empty car park, some one always want to park close next to my car. Don't understand why people do this...................

Hopefully because that someone is also very careful with his/her car, and figures that their car would be safer next to yours. At least on one side.. Or maybe they're just plain evil..

when you see some of the cars, I think either they're plain evil or completely dumb

During the winter someone plowed into the side of my previous S3 with a shopping cart, and I found out about it the day before I was going to sell it when I washed it. Because the car had been dirty for a while I hadn't noticed it earlier.
Sometimes, I don't understand the human race.. Lessons learned, never keep the car dirty for more than a week.

Perhaps if people are so bothered about what happens in car parks perhaps they should leave their car at home and catch the bus!!

Personally I never park in any particular space in any car parks and have never had any problems. The thing that I hate is people who will insist on parking backwards into a parking space, holding up every one else in the process, and then when they come back to the car they squeeze between the other gets to put the shopping in the back. It would be much easier for everyone if the just parked front-in.

I park whichever way round is appropriate for the cars around me. If it's a narrow gap, I'll park passenger door to passenger door very close and leave a much bigger gap for the drivers door. If the cars either side of the space I'm going for are facing the same direction, I'll ALWAYS park the opposite way around because of this too - the wing mirrors are then offset which makes it easier as well.

Someone with an Q7 did that to me in a multi-story car park in German. They parked very close to my car, passenger doors together or so they thought. The problem was that in my car being RHD car my 'passenger' door was in fact the drivers door!!. In the end, my wife who is the same age as me but a little more supple managed had to get in the our passenger door and climb across the centre console to get the car out of the space. They obviously thought they were being helpful but didn't notice the steering wheel was on the other side.

That is fine to a degree in Supermarkets but not always the case in some general car parks.

The amount of times I have to think for other drivers who are reversing out and not looking at passing traffic and see many near misses because people either don't edge out slow enough to view on coming cars or just start pulling out without due car and attention.

Had one literally last weekend .. I was steadily driving looking for a space, noticed a car almost parallel with me start coming out so had to flaw my throttle to narrowly avoid them piling straight into me ... now that REALLY pi$$es me off !

When reversed in, the cars pointing out have a much clearer view of on-coming traffic and present less of a risk of causing a shunt.

Fair comment in Supermarkets though re loading shopping, but you do still have to think for others sometimes depending on the car park layout and spacings.

Yes, I do always check the location of the steering wheel - there is a LHD car in my block of flats that I'm careful with for that reason!

Where i live it's far worse … some (jealous? careless? crazy? idle?) people put their shopping on top of other cars' rooftops (the one that happens to be next to them) before sticking their shopping bags into their own car.

I have seen it done with my own eyes and have a colleague who had scratches on his roof after going to the supermarket, most probably due to the same thing being done to his car.

So beware … or better still, don't go to the supermarket with your nice car - I personally take my wife's company car .

I'd get an extremely loud alarm that would be triggered by something like this, watch them jump out of their skin the first time they try it and never try it again :P

That's one option but even though i think of myself as a gentle kind of person; I think i'd get violent if this happened to me, i'd probably thump their bonnet, dent it like mad then leave.
