Ruddy typical -accident already - TWO days

Oh well. Had car 2 days and some plank in a Land rover freelander (surprise surprise) drove into the back of my car in heavy m4 traffic. Why do people tailgate.Imbeciles.

Thats the 2nd freelander that has tried to trash my car. 1st missed after 5 mins of getting it on Saturday. Seems that people who drive 4x4s, especially Land rovers are incompetent imbeciles and selfish (oh as im a rubbish driver ill get a bigger car so I can do more damage, but im ok jack).

So after picking up my car on Saturday:-

    It had 2 wrong booklets

1st land rover freelander tried to wipe me out at 30mph because he swerved from an inside lane to the outside land of a dual carriageway without warning or indication because he is a moron

Had a problem with the car after 5 mins and took it back to the garage

On the way back to the garage, another imbecile in a 4x4, this time an x5 nearly drove into my car because they were too busy playing with their phone

Seems problem was sound deadening had come away and temp fix in place - permanent fix soon

2nd land rover drove into my car this morning

Boot doesnt shut well. Bumper scrapped badly and I think the parking sensors aren't working. Just the hassle I could do without

Pic doesn't show damage well but gutted - 11 years ive waited for a new car, 6 month waiting list ruined by a plank in 2 days - I think 4x4s should be banned unless you have a special permit like an hgv licence

Oh, that's really not good!!! It seems like the 4x4 drivers really are out to get you at the moment! :-(

I'm sure they'll get it all sorted though, and at least there should be no colour match issues with something so new - just order pre-painted parts!

What did the other driver say? Did he admit his fault straight away. Sorry this has happen. From the only picture you posted the rear toe cap has fallen off. Got any close ups?

I tend to find it's morons in 4x4s as well. Especially the BMW X- variety...

Ruddy typical -accident already - TWO days

Works ok now on ipad... Doesn't look too bad on the outside but it's always the damage it has done out of view that is the problem. Maybe a chance to test the Audi ensurance? To bring a very small positive to it...? Don't let it ruin your day mate.... **** happens and this could have been a lot worse by the looks of it!

That is terrible - some drivers just don't deserve to be on the roads and so gutting with your car being so new.

Will it be an insurance job then ?

Only ask as some jerk hit my last car a couple of years ago (when it was parked so I wasn't even in the car) and he claimed through his insurance.

Subsequently, on your insurance renewal it asks if you have been 'involved' or had any claims in the last 3 years - so I queried this as I had not personally claimed but did not want putting no on the form it to be something which could come back to haunt me in the future as we all know insurance companies will find loop holes in the event of a claim.

Good job I checked as even though I was not in the car and nothing to do with me, I still had to declare it as a none fault claim, even though not even through my policy !!

I was fuming - it put my policy up £70 for the year and stay on my record for 3 years ... just a heads up fella if you do go through insurers.

The non-fault claims I've put on my insurance have not affected my premium in the slightest. I've had 2 people run into the back of me in my last car, did both through insurance and didn't make a difference to the prices I paid later on, the way it should be.

Sorry about the bad news, I would be gutted. May be all 4x4 drivers should have ACC fitted for free. Hope the loan car you are given while yours is being repaired is a S3, but I think not.

I feel for you - accidents are not the least bit fun. At least with them going into the back of you like that it's clearly their fault. Happened to me twice in my previous car. Both times waiting at the same roundabout. Both of them on a Friday morning. It was a hassle, but had no problems with claiming it all on their insurance, including hire car. Doesn't seem to have affected my premiums either.

It looks minor but boot doesnt shut well but locks ok

Pretty hairy where it was outside fast lane of m4 eastbound to london near 8/9 maidenhead...I only get on at 10 too just my luck

Lost my rag when it happened but guy was very old so had yo calm down quick. He must have been mid 60s I guess. He stayed in his car so I asked him to pull over. Got in my car and moved forward. He didnt look like he would stop. So I stopped in the outside lane a metres later and took a picture of his car with him in it. My phone gps was on so he can't day he wasnt there.

We pulled over and exchanged details

He apologised later on the phone but did ask if I can get a quote and not go via insurance as no damage to his car..which worries me. Luckily I have the photo. Couldn't get a photo of the accident as way to dangerous to stay where we were and traffic picking up

police saw us but just drove by. Waste of space

Ditto! I've declared both rear-end shunts (not my fault) to my insurance company and the price hasn't increased at all. The last one cost the other party over £1500 for new bumper and body work yet my insurance premium didn't change. If they try and increase your premium choose another insurance company!

That really sucks! Let's just hope it's just cosmetic repairs needed. I was driving the M3 yesterday in horrendous conditions and was so paranoid about all the idiots on the road I sat at 60 in the inside lane the whole way. Never used to be that precious about my cars.
I had a no-fault claim 3 years ago and it put my premium up. According to the insurers, people who make no-fault claims are statistically more likely to make further claims. Really???

It could be then to do with the insurer then (esure).
Just changed the other half's policy to move away from them and I will probably do the same come renewal.
I thought at the time it was a bit steep penalising me some other **** hitting my parked car.

I wouldn't do this. Always go through insurance. If you find some damage years down the line that was from this accident, you'd have no way to correct it if you did the repair and get him to pay - at least if you did it through insurance you can get them to sort it out if they didn't properly repair it when they were supposed to.

Totally gutted for you. I agree it usually seems to be either 4x4 drivers or BMW's which tailgate. What especially infuriates me is when they pull right up behind you and then start flashing their lights to tell you to get out of the way! Normally I'm a sensible distance back from the car in front, but they seem to think it makes them go faster... idiots.. go figure...

At least with a rear end there is no question of fault.

It does make me angry when insurance companies don't fight your case for you - that is what you are paying them to do at the end of the day! I have a friend whose insurance company tried to push 50/50 on to him recently, he demanded to see their side of the story and point out any errors in it (he also had plenty of photographic and even audio evidence of them admitting fault). Turned out his insurance company hadn't even bothered to find out the other side of the story, and had rolled over to the other insurers offering 50/50 without even the smallest objection. Needless to say when he asked for their side of the story they decided it wasn't his fault after all... they'll try and get away with doing as little as possible if they can.

2nd day of owning my current S3 a 'tard in an ancient Focus decided my car looked better without it's driver mirror. We sat at standstill seeing it was happening but I couldn't get to the switch quickly enough to fold it in. I was absolutely f*****g steaming, especially as the woman who was driving wouldn't get out of the car and talk to me so her passenger got out and tried to negotiate it as a 50/50. I doubt their car cost what it cost to replace the wing mirror (it's folding and has heated / dimming glass etc.), but it was the careless / carefree nature that these people have when they do it. I know it wasn't life or death (on this occasion), but it's easy for them to be flippant and try and play it down when your cars not worth much more than a decent coat. In the end I got it sorted through insurance, but the woman couldn't even look me in the face let alone own up. One word, but as it's a public forum I'll refrain from saying it.

So sorry for you with what's happened, it's awful when your pride and joy gets damaged within a couple of days. Just glad the damage to the car is not more extensive and that you are OK. People eh

I've never seen more motorists than I have of late on phones / looking in footwell / doing anything other than concentrating on driving. Put them all in room 101.

Very sorry to hear this. It's a lot of hassle which you could have done without.

If I were you I would tell the insurance company, just incase this guy is not trust worthy (lets hope he is actually insured). Good that you took the picture as proof, can't be too careful these days.

Agreed, MANY people can no longer be trusted to be honourable or do the right thing. In a blameless society only facts and evidence count, and these people need to be made to pay. Of the reviews I've read the Blackvue seems to be the most universally recommended but isn't without it's issues. I want a forward/backward facing camera with GPS / instant review. I've been hit three time in the last 15 years (funnily enough twice by 4x4's - a Disco and a Cherokee), and on both occasions the driver said 'I didn't see you'. How do these people pass a test?

A friend of mine once had someone run into the back of the glider trailer he was towing... she apparently said "I didn't think the trailer was as long as it is"...!

    The mind boggles!

If I get a dashcam though, I'd really like to wire it in to the car neatly, I'm not sure how hard a job that would be.

Not as hard as you'd think. Unless you have a big interior mirror to hide it with it can look quite visible, but supposedly feeding the cables around the headlining isn't that hard (or down the A pillar), you just need to know how to wire up the feed from the live (some use a blade fuse piggy back adaptor to keep it simple).

Supposedly about an hours work tops.

He apologised later on the phone but did ask if I can get a quote and not go via insurance as no damage to his car..which worries me. Luckily I have the photo. Couldn't get a photo of the accident as way to dangerous to stay where we were and traffic picking up

police saw us but just drove by. Waste of space
You should go through your insurance! There may be an issue with his health (eyesight, etc.) that he's scared will get him banned - but it might save someone else's life later...

Also, you want the car returned to "as new" condition when it all shakes out, and that will probably cost a couple of thousand in parts & labour - which he probably won't want to pay anyway, so you'll be left claiming after the fact & your Insurance Co won't be happy about the delay in informing them.

I can probably hide it behind the mirror but there is a light sensor there somewhere that you wouldn't want to block. Perhaps on the lower right of the windscreen by the driver's A pillar would be better.

He may not want you to go through insurance, but frankly that's irrelevant, do what's best for you.

If you don't tell your insurers quickly they may not like that.

Glad you are ok. Sorry to hear about your car.

Definitely go through insurance on a 2 day old car.

It will be difficult, but remember - it is not a bad accident if you are fit to walk away form it.

Also, cars can easily be repaired. People can be very difficult to repair. It's only a car.

My wife got her own local solicitor on the case when the guy who pulled out in front of her tried to claim 50/50. Her insurance company were not happy. They wanted to use their own legal people. But we didn't trust them to fight the case. All sorted and very little stress.

The insurance companies only care about money and profit (as with any business i guess). If there's a cost involved to them then of course they'll try to do something about it. But if there is no direct benefit to them then they won't bother fighting/investigating the case.

Ruddy typical -accident already - TWO days

Gutted for you also. 2 days as well. Glad you are ok as can be messy on motorway. Perhaps he was looking at the lane closed on the westbound carriageway and not looking in front of him?

Def go through insurance as others have recommended.

Also, do notify your insurance ASAP as I has an issue when someone when into the back of me last year (pre 8V) and my insurance tried to dock a years no claims because I didn't notify them within 48 hours....

Hope you get it sorted and Audi body shop only to ensure they don't impact your warranty.

I have a RoadHawk dashcam and use it all the time. Pictures aren't whizzy HD but better than nothing and can show who caused what. Scary when replaying the incident though.
