On Sky.
No sky here. Will see if can get it online?? I thought Fifth Gear was Channel 5 !
On Sky.
...I see what you did there. lolLast week was Noble M600 vs. Porker Turbo S vs. Nissan GTR; then McLaren at the end and a bit of Mini Cooper Works (Team test) in the middle.
It's a show about cars, most people probably wouldn't get it ;-)
Totally agree.
The scene where Clarkson said in a rear wheel drive car you can do this.
And he gets the back end out going round the corner in the Bimmer.
Erm yeah that may be fine for hooning around on track, but for driving on roads (in all weather conditions) I will stick with the much more safe and stable 4 wheel drive thank you ... even front wheel drive !
Totally reminded my why I will not buy another rear wheel drive car.
Fine for totally dry warm days, but not for me now having sampled quattro !

[Thread hijack] Snake, out of interest do you know what the drive split is in the latest S5 - e.g. 50/50 front to rear, 40/60(F/R) ????? [/back on topic - apologies]
Rear wheel drive is far better and more fun in the dry.
My garage queen will likely always be RWD as it is so much more involving to drive. My daily will always be AWD.
Running RWD as a daily will possibly sour the experience, I've tried twice and it's okay until the snow and ice hits.

I do find quite a lot of BMWs backwards or up side down (or both) in ditches, not far from the exits of roundabouts usually. Can't be a good sign.
I don't think he'd chose to risk his own life to prove a point, i still think it's staged.
I doubt they could get the realism by staging that off - the grass flying up past the window, Jezza's colour change - he went pale & quiet.Or he was filmed inside the cabin in a controlled crash for a few minutes of filming... You believe what you want to believe.
Hi guys,
I have been an avid fan of all things motoring since I can remember, I despise Clarkson and agree with the fact that Top Gear is an entertainment programme for the masses rather than anything informative about cars. From the reviews online that I have seen, the M135i has been described as completely competent as a road car (atleast) and that the Golf is approaching that level.
Apologies, I am new to the forum (as you can see from my number of posts) but I need some guidance. Bexley Audi is absorbing my A3 1.8T SB due to a raft of issues since owning the vehicle from new in May 2013. I am in the process of upgrading to an S3 and the "preferential" deal offered by dealership is £3,000 off the list of the car. Is this enough? What are we typically seeing as discounts. The preferential deal is being given as a result of the issues I have experienced since purchasing my A3. I get the feeling I could get £3k off the car if I walked in from the street.
Apologies if this is a thread elsewhere, and if so please do link me. This is something that is going down imminently so your assistance in this regard would be really appreciated.
Many Thanks.
Mani
Hence my comment that if it was planned, he wouldn't have been doing the driving. He'd have been replaced by a stunt driver.
I have definitely read this somewhere but can't remember where and can't lay my hands on it right now.
It is not listed in the brochure.
BUT ... I do remember it being biased to the rears and not 50/50
Update ...
Found it
It is listed in the on line details of the S5 ...
quattro < S5 Coupé < A5 < Models < Audi
S5 with quattro
In the S5, the power to the front and back wheels is split in a 40:60 ratio â giving the car a sporty, rear-focused driving style that guarantees maximum agility and driving enjoyment

From memory Clarkson doesn't rate the s3 at all.
S5 Quattro is head and shoulders above the S3 one.
That's the one bit about the S5 where it trumps the S3 in how the two cars drive and the thing that I miss from the S5.
If the S3 Quattro was that from the S5 it would be perfectly set up.
The S3's front bias is detrimental, especially without a decent diff.

It was this particular area of the S5's talent that sold it for me, with sports diff it's disarmingly agile for it's size. The S3 is a brilliant car and I'd wanted one for as long as I knew they were due out, but on the day the outcome was an unexpected one. Mix of 3.0T and Quattro / sports diff was the tipping factor.
Hmmm very interesting - sounds like otherwise though the S3 is working out well for you.
Sounds like our search for the perfect Audi continues then
I was set on an RS3 next time round but having now seein pictures and specs on the new TTS, I could be tempted back into one.
I just like having the practicality and option to use back seats again with the 5 and and a 3 would give me that too, the TT would not.
Oh well, nice problems to have eh
I don't think there is one, certainly not for me.
Had a weekend with the new RS4 and didn't find that particularly good either (although fantastic engine).
I will have one more attempt with a "sporty" Audi at some point in the future and that will be the R8 (8 or 10 cylinder depending on budget at the time), but that's for the future.
Clarkson always likes a Golfs.
It was very, very similar to a 135 v R32 feature years ago. Exact same same criticism of BMW (boot space, rear legroom etc). Mirror image review....... Just 10 has years later.
And to dismiss the AMG A45 as costing 47k - so therefore irrelevant?? When I was looking to buy, they cost about 38k..... with plenty of standard kit.
Then not including an S3, Golf R.
And if I remember that Astra VXR won last year's hot hatch feature.
Ah well. Probably better the S3 didn't feature. He would have made a single benign comment about it and dismissed it like the AMG.
To be honest, that review would have made me favour the BMW over the GTi.
Well many don't rate Clarkson . Pompous Tory **** IMHO . Call me old but what happened to proper car programmes rather than the current Top Gear inane rubbish.
For Mr Eight A definition - an ultraconservative or reactionary
