    DTD v ORANGE WHEELS

Ok so I'm looking at both brokers and was wondering if people could share their experiences of both these brokers. How have people gone about buying their cars either through these brokers or just used the quote as a bargaining tool at a local branch.

used orange wheels price as a bargaining tool and took ammo to local dealer who then offered £500 off the OTR price for the car i wanted (orange wheels was around 8.2% discount from memory) and £500 on top of what i had already been quoted by orange wheels for car that i was selling in a part ex, which i found highly insulting as a returning customer looking to purchase my 4th car in 6 years from them. They went on to explain that they were only given a certain allocation per year for the model i wanted basically explaining that they could get the full price from soft customers. We shook hands and i left. In 2 minds whether to return to my dealer once the car arrives for a service and rub their noses in it? Gloating is not my style really though.

Became impatient at this point and emailed 10 audi dealers nationwide explaining my position and a dealer came back happy to match orange wheels price for my car and the prospective new car. If i had failed to progress with the initial 10 dealers then i would of picked another 10 and so on. Forget phone calls get straight to the point in an email and see who wants the business?

This may help further, if you've not already read before, with tactics.

I also used a internet broker to bargain with my dealership, although orange wheels and DTD were not the cheapest so I went to my own I'd used before. The salesperson didn't even ask for evidence, which was a good thing because I quoted for another, more expensive car.

When I was originally looking at changing my car, I liked the look of the Q3. Whilst I did think about finding a second-hand one, I was struggling to find one with the spec I wanted, so I started looking at new builds. Tried arranging a 24 hr test drive with a dealer (which didn't go to plan at all - long story for another time), but during this, the dealer asked if I'd had any quotes so far/spec ideas. I explained that I'd looked around online and found some deals through OW/DTD. The dealer said ok, pass me the details and I'll see what we can do. Response i received was " there is no way we can match these ridiculous discounts, and I would be suprised if you can find a dealer who will" (paraphrased). Needless to say i wasn't amused at all, by the response (the rest of which was slightly curt/rude - they had even wanted to try and get an order before I'd even taken a test drive!!) and I spoke to orangewheels shortly after to discuss possible options, and they were very helpful and clear, although they didn't give me as good as trade-in price as I wanted. So I decided to get the best price I could from Orangewheels/DTD and use as a bargaining tool. I'd shifted to an A3 by this time (figured I could have a better specced car that was cheaper to run for the same price). Rang round several dealers, asking what they could do for me. Some offered £500 off, and that was their best deal, a couple asked what the best price I'd had was, and I gave the OW price. They said couldn't match it. My local dealer wouldn't give anything off, despite me servicing my car there for the last 5 years! Finally a couple of dealers didn't quibble and came very close. The best was £38 of the deal, with a better trade in (which I still bettered), so I went with them..My advice - use as bargaining tool, don't accept the first price, ring around and make them do the legwork! Its your money, and they've got to make you want to sign on the dotted line..

As a third option, carfile.net has the same discount structure as far as I can see (which is 8% off with no discount on the delivery charge so just under 8% in total). Although I haven't yet received my order, the process has been both quick and painless so far and Jonathan (carfile.net) was very communicative and helpful - we had everything sorted within 24 hours with the dealer in use (Midlands based). Based on my experience so far, I would thoroughly recommend carfile.

My local dealer was £1k off the price - I didn't bother looking elsewhere as they are all the same franchise here....

Lol! Love it! Times are hard now rooney is back on it!!
Sounds good and thanks for your advice and everyone else's! I think I might ring round rather than turning up then so I don't waste my time I guess. One dealer I spoke to said that DTD and orange wheels are for PCP finance deals only? I think that I might get the response a lot of people have for saying that they won't get anywhere near the quote of orange wheels.
One thing I have seen is that jardine motors will price match any quote- i wonder if that includes orange wheels?

Kenny. I think orange wheels primarily use a dealer group in the Midlands area and accept cash settlements where as DTD offer finance.

RVP. If you have the time by all means call dealers otherwise just send out a generic email cover note to multiple dealers and Bcc all but one when your ready to send for a quicker response? It will also allow the dealer time to mull over and see whether or not they are in a position to match it. Its a simple yes or no.

Would be interesting to use the parker guide on timings to buy and see if that holds any influence when in negotiating where calling the dealer may be more suitable?

    Just my thoughts.

The dealer where I bought my 8P from offered to buy my car plus £500 on top of what I was asking and a discount of £500 for the 8V which was not even close to what the broker offered.

The one thing I have found when I rang round the brokers is that they usually will answer any questions you have. They won't tell you the name of the dealer, but may give you a idea of how far way they will be.

orange wheels seem to be offering a good discount at the moment on S3's. More than Kings Lynn where offering (9%) remember when you look at discounts, they can only be based on the pre VAT price as VAT can't be discounted. But most brokers will show the discount with VAT.

Manchester Audi wouldn't match a broker last time I went in.

    Indeed they do.

I visited Birmingham Audi a few weeks ago to see what discount they could offer - and showed them the Orangewheels quote.

The salesman told me he could only offer 3% discount - but also said don't be afraid to use Orangewheels.
He then stated that they use a dealer within the same group as Birmingham - and were very close to them.

I'm sure you can work it out from that!

went with Kings Lynn. As many have done on here. They are only a small dealer but can offer good discounts and most of all good service. It's about 180 miles or a £40 train ticket to pick the car up. I do have a car to trade in at the moment, but the last couple of cars I have had I have always managed to get a better price than trade in by ringing round other dealers. I plan to do this in the new year with our A4, but Kings Lynn have already said they would be interested in it, and that would make things easier. But we'll see.

in the North West I went to Blackburn, Preston, Bolton, Manchester. None would match or even discount the car!

I can't really comment much about DTD. I used them but it was a give and go type of transaction. I think I called them once prior to ordering to see roughly where the garage in question was located and they were pretty helpful, but I wasn't exactly a testing customer! £30 for a quote or whatever it was is neither here nor there so you can't expect them to provide exemplary service!

Once I obtained my quote I put it towards local garages who all fannied about and I couldn't be bothered to play their games so I just went and placed my order with the original garage. Their (38k) loss ey! The local garages I tried were Cambridge, Huntingdon, Bedford and Hatfield.

Mike at Carlisle (the garage who secured my order) has been exceptionally helpful, although he has been away from his desk quite a few times since ordering and won't be present when I pick my car up as he's away on another holiday. The rest of the people at Carlisle however have been good to deal with whilst he's been away. Can't fault their service so far.

did Carlisle match the DTD price? As this is one of the dealers that DTD use.

Brokers usually have confidentiality clauses to refrain people from stating the name of the dealer. I know DtD does and assume Orangewheels does also. They put you in touch with the dealer after you place your order with the broker and all further communication is with the dealer.

To correct a post above: DtD aren't exclusively for finance options. I have used them without the finance option and they were great.

this very true, but you will find some people will just name the dealer after the deal is done, as come back is very unlikely!

i know a couple of people that have used DTD and the dealer they where put in touch with was Carlisle! I can say this as I'm not the one who is in any type of confidentiality agreement

I think I can speak for Paul as I am going through same process as he is. DTD use Carlisle as one of their dealers. I think they have a north dealer and a south one. (So DTD told me) I was put in touch with Carlisle once DTD secured the order from me.

Retrospectively. If ALL of us S3 8V owners and prospective owners had go together and offered a dealer a bulk order for say 15 S3's it would have been intersesting to see what discount would of been offered? On the other hand it may have been less than what is being currently offered as the dealer may feel profit margins could be kept large against allocations with timid non negoitiating customers who are happy to pay full price?

    thoughts guys?

Great idea in principle, but each dealer only has a certain allocation of cars so they're restricted on how many cars they can blow 90% of their margins on.
