After 2000 miles I still seem to be getting a burning smell from outside of vehicle after a good 20 mile plus run .. I've also had the coolant fan stay on which I believe is dpf related ? Mine is a 2.0 tdi .. Anyone else getting a burning / hot smell on key off ?

I've got the 1.6 TDI, and I get this occasionally. It's the DPF doing a recycle programme. It's perfectly normal. It concerned me the first time that it did it. There are quite a few comments and questions on here about it.
