Ok so the DTD do all the work and get you discount right? How do they make the money then? I take it you let them negotiate a price without speaking to the dealer yourself?

Presumably they negotiate a bigger discount than you get, and they keep the difference

They charge the supplying dealer £500 for finding the customer.

Coast2coast include a £300 admin charge in their quote. This difference might explain why they are a couple of hundred quid cheaper than DtD.

It is by far the easiest way to get the biggest discount going. Very rarely are people able to get a better deal than what these guys offer and it saves you having to listen to all the salesman's bul***it about what dealing with an internet broker is all about (99.9% of which is factually incorrect!)

The broker usually deals with someone in a different department, usually feet sales and fleet sales is all about volume sales with little profit, and more import no sales desk or trying to sell a car, they just take a order and get the car.

I am not surprised he was comfused, most people who want a discount, simply ask the salesman nicely for a discount and don't order till they have got a discount they are happy with, fairly simple.
Mind games are not normally necessary

I note from the DTD website it says part ex of your current car is not possible. Is genuinely the case based on personal experience?

I bought my 1.4 Sportback s-line stronic in shiraz red with comfort pack, satnav, glass sunroof, privacy glass, and folding mirrors with a discount of £2920 without part ex. ( sold it through Auto Trader) from my local Audi main dealer. Got excellent service of them, I have had it for about 3 weeks and I am very pleased with it, any excuse to go for a drive.

You can't negotiate a px with DtD, however you may be able to do so through the supplying dealer. But you'll only find out who that is after ordering the car from DtD.

Best bet is private sale though Autotrader, etc or try webuyanycar or similar.

The part ex the dealer quoted against a non discounted car was only £50 different to what we buy any car offered me. And it was £2-3000 less than what similar cars where up for on the forecourt.

when I got my last car, I was trading a 18 month old Ford Kuga in and a week before I picked the new car up, I rang round all my local dealers and one offered me £900 more than Audi offered me. I drove straight over and sold the car to them, and then just told my Audi dealer I had the money instead of the trade in.

£2.5K difference between dealer px and forecourt price is fairly typical on a £12-13K purchase price, and dealer prices will always be £1000 more than a private sale, and they will probably knock £500 - £750 off this price when they sell it.

They have also spent out on servicing, alloy refurb valeting etc (maybe £500 - £750 ) add in their overheads and they might make £1000 and you have had the convienience of a hassle free sale and not had to go through the pain of advertising and associated fees and hoping the buyer does not back out at the last minute and if you do sell quickly might need to fork out £250 for a hire car for a few days.

I px'd my 3.5 year old 8P A3 and once I worked out the sums I could have netted about £500 over the px price if i sold privately but thought the £500 "loss" was worth it for the reduced hassle

Hi, we had a bit of a laugh with one of our local dealership, not Audi, when it came to trading in my partner's car, a Mazda 2. Parkers, and webuyanycar gave the value at about £5500, however we were offered £7500 for our car against a new Seat Leon FR and £7000 against a new Fiesta Titanium X. In the end we took the Ford as the Seat's interior was a bit cheap and nasty. Ford then tried to sell our car for £8500 when they had no chance as the same car(s) were selling at a main Mazda dealership for £7500. In the end they had to advertise it at that, but who knows what they got for it in the end and I think that they must have made a loss against our car, but of course a profit on the new Fiesta.

DTD aren't particularly competitive with the saloon, I can get £1900 discount from buyacar from the same car with the same options, DTD only quote just over £1k. Even some dealerships are giving me £1700 which is pretty good. I also don't understand how anyone could recommend webuyanycar as they are a bunch of sharks and have only had bad press as far as I can see, nothing good about them at all.

Carfile are 8% (except they don't discount the delivery, so it's more like 7.8%) at the moment across the A3 range - assuming the quote I have had double checks out with the dealer which is happening as we speak. I've been quoted a 2.5k discount on a 33k build, delivery in March (which is fine for me - I want a 14 plate). Best the local dealer could come up with is £1.5k off - £1k is a LOT... If I go ahead, I've been told build week is W4 so delivery March which suits me as I want a 14 plate....

Jonathan is a thoroughly nice guy to deal with too from my experiences so far. I tried all the others and the only other that was the same was UK Car Broker but Carfile were quickest back to me (the two were the same price to the penny).

    I can confirm this - just had slightly over 8% discount (I haggled a little more!) on a £32675 A3 Sline 184 s-tronic quattro Build date W4, so a 14 plate. Nice!

I've been thoroughly impressed with them so far - very communicative and nice people to deal with (both at carfile and the Audi dealer).

Carfile also do part ex but not with the dealer, they have someone who will do this. We have an old (read 51 plate) beatup Toyota Yaris and got an OK trade in value (but then the difference between fair and great tradins on this is probably £100).

Just ordered mine around 3 hrs ago and was quite pleased with the overall discount. Initially, he offered me £1,000 and £5,500 for my p/x. I emailed him back and said that Mercedes were offering better discounts on the A Class and he came back with £1,250 and £5,700 respectively. I left it a week and went in today fully prepared to order the car but I asked him if I was to add a panny roof and hill start, would he knock a bit more off. He obliged and got the both extras for £850 (£200 off). All in all, really pleased with £1,450 discount but sadly I have to wait until late March/ early April to take it for a spin.

Anyone know how dealers arrive at this figure?? Who tells them?

Discounts on S3 are always lower than A3 where I have heard 12% is possible.

I guess they can offer 12 or more on any car, but it's just down to the dealer. You've got to think that most modern dealers have well over 30 staff and a huge nice show room. the monthly out goings will be massive before they have even sold a car. To some making £1000 and more on each car may sound a lot, but they need it to cover the bills. Thats why some dealers won't discount as they see it as the end of the showroom as we know it.

I've saved 10% plus £5k from Audi on the 2 RS4's i have on order and was offered the same on an S3, but thats because I've had several cars off them.

There's not many head of business at an Audi dealership that will happily give you his mobile number, and take calls or questions out of hours. For me thats worth the trek from Durham down to kings Lynn any day of the week.

Anyone can sell you anything, but its the service and aftersales that comes with it and from my own personal buying experience of over 15 Audis in 3 years, I'm yet to find better than Andrew and the team at kings Lynn.

And no, I'm not on commission but do like to share my own personal experiences and touch wood they have all be positive so far.

If anyone would like his contact details, then please drop me a pm. I guarantee you won't find better service anywhere

No discount as such, as a few other Scottish members have stated, they're a bit tight up here.

Did get £1500 more for part ex than anyone else offered and got metalic paint for free so effectively £2000 on a 1.4TFSI COD S-Line.

You've done ok then by and large. The important thing is 'the price to change'. No discount and a huge trade in or a good discount and a parsimonious offer on trade in - you decide.
Of course the best approach is a big discount and a private sale. This usually returns the lowest cost. My present car was bought through Drive the Deal. I sold the Citroen through ebay for £3500 after being offered £1000 at a local dealer and a tiny discount on the new Audi.
This made a saving of around £5000 for minimal effort. My new 184 on order involves the same approach except that this time I slid the broker quote under the salesmans nose.

As stated Beware! Price to change is ONLY sensible if you seek to maximise both ends of the deal. Places like we buy any car in my experience do not offer a good price. We achieved more than 80% more recently selling spare Polo on Autotrader.

    Always worth shopping around too.

I couldn't agree with more ABYSS, I've ordered 2 new Audi's from King's Lynn Audi in the past 11 months, and their customer service has been second to none, not like half the horror storys you hear about other dealerships. I too will be using them for service and aftersales despite me moving away by a good 2 hour drive.

Long time no post... previously had a 8p A3 and now moved onto a F10 BMW 520d

Anyway the Mrs, is looking at a New 1.4TSI Sportback with Heated Seats, interior light package, sound upgrade and comfort pack... Local dealer is saying no real movement on price, but I will see when I go back in tomorrow,

Would 8-9% be about the best I can hope for on a "low" value car....

    Cheers

I'd put money on it that you will get 9% off from Kings Lynn. You will find a few here by looks of it have gone to kings Lynn and all dealt with different people. It's 190 miles from me but only £60 on the train, and no local dealers would knock anything off, so made sense to me.
