Does anyone know whether the privacy glass that you can specify with the new A3 has any UV protection or not? Does it help keep the car cool in summer or is it purely aesthetic?

Thanks in advance.

Haha, me neither. Not sure what made think of it in the first place tbh, would be interesting to find out tho.

I know it's looks nice especially with pano roof! Ha ha

in the heat we have had id say no!!! i have both , and car has been soooooooo f'ing hot when left in sun.!!!

Gotta love the pano roof in this weather though!! :)

I don't think any window has UV protection but the privacy glass will be better than standard for sure.

Hmmm, taking into account all of the above, does anyone know if you can get after market tinting done that just blocks UV rays, in other words a clear film that reduces UV as opposed to blocking light in general?

Doesn't glass block UV anyway?

A window acts like a sunscreen. It does not block all the UV radiation
but it does block the most dangerous wavelengths of UV radiation.
Glass absorbs short wavelength ultraviolet light, but it does pass 350
to 400 nanometer ultraviolets. While this longer wavelength
ultraviolet is less harmful than the shorter wavelength variety, you
can still tan or burn if you get enough exposure. You will burn much
more quickly when driving with the windows down and exposed to the sun
as compared to driving with the windows up and exposed to the sun."

Good reply moonlight
The dark glass also keeps the heat out of the car, as in some countries you can have dark glass all round this also helps to keep the interior cool.
