Excessive engine fan noise

Since yesterday I've noticed excessive fan noise from the car after the engine has been turned off.

The temperatures here are around freezing and the noise has been after two relatively short journeys so I can't see why the engine would be running too hot.

Its a 1.6TDI with only around 500miles on it. Has anyone else experienced this before I take it back to the dealer.

I get this regularly with my A4 after shorter journeys. Apparently it's normal and to do with the DPF. Fan runs on loudly for up to 10 minutes after leaving the car.

What Hitchy said, it's the engine cooling fans staying on to cool down the DPF after a regeneration cycle. The DPF get's to about 650c after a regeneration cycle, so it needs to cool down to avoid overheating the engine compartment. Nothing to worry about!

cool guys, thanks for clearing that up. Incidentally it was after switching the car into Economy mode - wanted to see what that was like for a while.
