Ableton Live with an X-Session and a Behringer BCD3000.

Never got on with CDJ's after 1210's but starting to like what can be done with Ableton.

ye cant beat some real live mixing, shows if they're any good or not, I always thought from the early days that Carl Cox was a fantastic mixer, his choice of tunes went bit spacey sometimes but the mixing was so precise to say the least

I always loved seeing Sasha and Digweed, when they are on form they are really on form, they really understand mixing in key as well, which so many people just don't get, and it is so important.
And the way Sasha gets tunes bouncing off each other to the point where you're not sure which is which, even when you know them both, is superb.

    thanks mate

I used to think like that but the way things have evolved its very difficult to get stuff on vinyl now-a-days. I can remember when the first CDJ decks came out and Graeme Park was testing them in Mixmag and me and my mates were like, 'but theres no real skill, and that'll never catch on!' but in the end I have bought a pair of them because I could download music and play it out.
I have had my 1210's since I was 16 and I'm now 32 and I would never, ever sell them or any of my vinyl but sometimes you just have to go with the flow, plus Ableton is one immensely powerful bit of kit

can't argue with that, but don't you think sasha has lost his mojo with the minimal bleepy stuff that he is playing now? proper sasha to me is uplifting house like what he was playing in the early 90's

Yeah, totally agree, as much I respect what he is doing now and what he does with a tune, especially in live sets, I don't like the tunes much any more.

Sasha in 1991 was dropping in almost chart stuff with early house and hardcore, and you were getting the odd techno tune coming in too, but he blended it in a way that always worked.
He always seemed like the DJ's DJ to me, his mixing was tight and he understands how two tunes work together.
His mid 90's sets got a lot of people I know into dance for the first time.

I'm 35 now and like stuff that's diffferent, I like 20:20 soundsystem and more progessive stuff, I am also alot less anal about mixing quality these days which is nice as some stuff with great tunes used to get thrown to one side because the quality of mixing would annoy me! :D

One mix set I love and has got a few people who say they don't like "that sort of music" into it is a set by Neil Nice.
His mixing isn't much but his choice of tunes just makes me smile, it has actually got me into some other types of music I wouldn't normally listen too.
It is a real summer, BBQ on type of mix, everyone I know has really loved it, has a real 80's feel to it and just makes you smile.

    Worth a download.....

Man, that Sasha and Joe Peng is off the hook! I had a load of Sasha tapes when I were at school, and dreamt of clubbing! Illegal raves for me until I was 18 though, looked too young to go clubbing. Soon as I hit 18, I toured the UK clubs.
Club music nowadays is ****e, has to be said.

I seriously lost 5 years of my life from 16 through to 21, but wouldn't change it for the world.
tell me about it! oh to be young again, it takes me at least a week to recover from a night out these days and i certainly couldn't do a friday, saturday & sunday like i used to too!!!

    Nice to see some 1200s.

It is funny looking back at this thread, I am now using Serato Itch with an Allen & Heath Xone: DX and love it, tried Traktor for a bit and didn't really like it, then tried the CDJ2000s out and really wanted them, first CDJ I have liked and these are something else, but you are looking at £4500 all in and just too much for me.
Then was told to try Itch if I liked the CDJ2000s and Rekordbox, and I did and I love it. Has a real simple feel to it and feels like back to basics mixing again.

Also, what I was saying about Sasha earlier in the thread is interesting, as the stuff he has been playing this year is absolutely back on form, some of the best dance music I have ever heard, I just love it.

His Ibiza sets and his set at Fabric were sublime, and then at Ministry in December was just unreal, back to basics proper house with a twist. Superb!

Good to see i'm not the only one still using the traditional methods!
    2 x Stanton Str8-150s
    Pioneer DJM 800 mixer
Korg Kaossilater + Mini Kaoss Pad
I got Ableton, Reason and this other Dj studio trial thing which never ran out!
Don't have the money to buy decent enough CD Decks to warrant switching to MP3 yet.
I'm pretty interested in the time code vinyl set ups if anyone can recommend a decent one?!

Forgot to say i play mainly DnB and dubstep but i got plenty of oldskool, funky house and electro!

Same here. I gave it up a long time ago now sadly as simply haven't got the time for it. I've still got my very first decks and mixer up in the loft I keep for nostalgia purposes.

    2 x Numark T100s and a Vestax PCV275.

I too have a stack of Hardcore vinyl, as I sold the rest. The hardcore was always the most fun to mix with, and I have tons of limited edition vinyls from 1995 to about 2000 - happy days.... :D

I had a a pair of SL1210's and a Citronic Mixer, which I sold a couple of months ago along with all my old jungle tunes, because I hardly ever used them. Now I kind of wish I hadn't let them go, but if I'm honest with myself I was rubbish at mixing so it's probably for the best.

well my setup is looking pretty pathetic compared to all these!!!

at home i just use an American Audio VMS4 controller with laptop, and CDJ1000s with xone 62 in the club (or 800s depending where i'm playing) but generally stick to the VMS4 nowadays.

a lot of people still think it's cheating, for example my mates always say "yeah just use the sync button" to which i invite them to try their own mix with the sync button and they always fail! DJ'ing isn't just about beat matching, as anything a computer can do for you is just maths... a computer cant decide when to loop, use effect, lump acapellas over stuff etc, it cant throw in a sure-fire banger when it sees a dance floor emptying.

a wise man once said "it's not about HOW you do it, but WHY you do it..."
