    Audi Driver's International - 10th October 2009 - ***Official Thread***

Well guys, now that Audi's in the Park is out the way, it's time for me to start a new thread for Audi Driver International.
    Taken from the site:-
Now in its 7th year, Audi Driver International has grown to become the biggest event which is staged in the UK exclusively for Audi owners and enthusiasts.

During the day, the event is based at Castle Combe race circuit, near Chippenham in Wiltshire, with plenty of activity both on the track and in the paddock area. As well as fast-lap trackday sessions, demo drives and passenger rides throughout the day, there is also a low-speed lunchtime parade lap session for families with children.

The paddock area also sees a wide variety of attractions, including a Concours d'Elegance for show cars, club line-ups, historic vehicle display, trade stands and autojumble area. In the early afternoon there is a technical Q&A seminar with a team of experts and the event closes at 5 pm following a grand parade of club and show cars around the circuit.

In the evening, the event moves to the Hilton hotel at Swindon, which sees a reception, gala dinner and presentation of the annual Audi Driver awards to members of the trade, clubs and individuals who've contributed the most to the world of Audi throughout the year. It's a great social event and an opportunity to mix with other Audi enthusiasts.

With so much going on, you can pick and choose which activities suit you best, but why not join us for a whole day of Audi activity both at the circuit and at the hotel afterwards.

We look forward to seeing you there.
More details on their actual site on www.audidriverinternational.co.uk

Now the part where I come in is arranging for the clubstand passes to hand out to you guys prior to entering the event, so we can go park in our allocated plot. So after the success of Audis in the Park, I'm expecting a huge presence from As.net this year(I got 20 passes last year), but I'm not too sure of the numbers we can squeeze in, so basically, I'm looking to compile a list of attendees before I call Autometrix up and ask for the number of passes required.

For those interested, please PM me to confirm your interest, I will just need your username/firstname/car model and colour, and I will add you to the list.

Hope to see you guys there.

    Joe.

    *******MEETING POINT*******
For any previous attendees, it's the same plan as last year, lets all meet at the Cross hands pub at 8AM, so I can give the passes out.

    The address is:

    Cross Hands Hotel
    Old Sodbury
    Nr. Bristol
    South Gloucestershire
    BS37 6RJ

These are passes to allow access to the allocated stand, you will need to purchase tickets yourself online or at the door at CC.

Roll on the 10th peeps, see you on Saturday.

    Thanks.

    Joe

No, I prefer to update the list as I receive and read the PMs, this will be more ideal for me to arrange for the number of parking spaces I need.

No probs Tom, you have a month to decide, I will be applying for the correct number of passes around mid September so I get them on time, or we wouldn't be parking anywhere.

OOh, got an email saying they are going to let other VAG cars on the track - in which case it might be the Ibiza rather than the S3... I'll make my mind up and let you know.

I have to say i am with Jason on this, i know times are hard for everyone, but personaly i am not happy with the stand being diluted with other VAG cars. Maybe if we have enough "other vehicles " there then we can stick them on the end, kind of in their own area, so as not to alienate or dedicated members that "happen" to have other track cars and the like.

Lets just 'shun' all the none Audi drivers then

Personally, I dont mind as I have an interest in cars, not just Audi's. I love VW's and have owned a load of them to I'm not bothered if they turn up to be honest, I'll look at any nice car, Audi, VW...or anything else

I see the issue though, it is AUDI DRIVERS INTERNATIONAL but I think it would be a shame if the numbers of Audi's drop.

it reminds me of when I used to go to Run To The Sun in my bug. The chav brigade tried to take over with Saxo's, Novas etc. The way to combat it is to get the leading brand there....turn up on mass and out number them. It works, I've seen it done

Cheers up everyone, its going to be a good day!.

im with stace mark and jason on this too, like it says in the title "Audi driver" not VAG driver or Car driver, ive been longing for events with just audi in them for a while as im tired of looking at subaru, mitso EVO,VXR,Focus ST etc............ dont get me wrng i like all cars but Audi is where my heart is and i think it should be just audi's thats why im going. if there ends being a mix of cars although being VAG family then it will take the excitment away from me as i want to see audis not anything else, im not interested in anything else tbh thats why i bought my audis and not summin else.................KEEP IT AUDI PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tom, Its not about "shunning other cars" I am also very interested in other cars too. I apreciate good motors as much as the next guy or girl, what im saying is lets try and keep Audi driver for audis. Im not being funny but with our name being Audi-sport.net I feel our stand should just be for Audi's. So we can have some exclusitivity and our cars to be in the lime light for a change. I do not want our hard work being overshaddowed by other Vw cars as it is in ALL other shows we attend ie GTI etc etc

As for turning up in mass....we will be there and obviously the "best club" will shine through.
Ps all of you should vote for the best forum/club of 2009 sponsored by audi driver...see linky in my sig

If I want to mix with Seats, VWs, etc I would go and sit in Morrisons car park. I'm not driving all the way from sunny MK to Castle Coombe for something I can do by driving round the corner.

Just spoke to a customer of mine who has links with Autometrix, it's apparently true that they are allowing other VAG cars out on the track, but he reckons it should mainly be Audi's and most probably, most of the sessions will just be Audi's. He also admits it's pretty much a money making exercise tp allow VAG cars out onto the track, as they need a minimum of 70 drivers(off the top off his head) to take up sessions to break even for the Event organisers.
Maybe they are feeling the pinch of the recession on the events front also?

Lots of fair points there which I agree with. And apologies - my original post wasn't clear - I didn't mean I was going to ask to put my rusty Ibiza heap on the stand! I wouldn't inflict it on you guys as it is a real shed.

What I meant was if I take the Ibiza I won't be on the stand as I'll go and park with the other track cars. If so, there will be a space for someone else on the stand.

I haven't made my mind up yet, so keep me on for the moment Joe and I'll let you know...

I actually have no problems with you parking up with us Jase, it'll make our cars look better. No seriously, I'm sure you can park on that concrete bit opposite our stand if it's clear, the bit where everyone parks up after a session to cool down, there's always some kind of VW/Honda there anyways. Or just bring the S3 along and go on track with that, thought that was your plan this year round?

You have to pay a tenner at the door to get in mate. As for track sessions, it was £35 for a session out on the track which is like 10-15mins I think? Or you can book the whole day or full morning or afternoon sessions. You also need to pay to be a passenger too, unless you have paid for a track session already, in which case, you can be a passenger in any car. Bring a helmet too, as it's a requirement to be on the track, and the ones they lend you can be a bit stinky.

I was told that Castle Combe make the charge so if the £10 to get in goes to Castle Combe then why does Paul Harris's people take the money off you and not CC people?

I was told it's a tenner to get in, 5 goes to CC and 5 goes to Autometrix.

So they are making £5 on every spectator and £24 on every double room at the hotel and now they are letting vw's in because they are not making enough money. What next, 20p to use the toilets.

Just imagine what they would be slapping on if we weren't in a recession.

Also the price for tracking your car is hilarious as I paid 120 to drive someone elses cars around a track for two hours also food and soft drinks provided.

Official statement regarding Audi Driver International

I've noticed a few comments on forums about the VAG aspect at Audi Driver International this year and it's clear that there are some misunderstandings, so here is the situation:

'We know that some confusion has arisen over our decision to let other Volkswagen Group cars on the track at Audi Driver International.

The reason is simple: this is the seventh year of the event and, each year, we have made a loss on the track activity. As you can realise, the hire of the track is extremely expensive and, unless we get sufficient entrants, we either have to increase the cost to each of them, or make a big loss - and this is what has happened for six years. If we had enough Audis signing up for track time, it would be no problem, but experience has shown us that this will not happen.

Don't think, though, that we are going to allow cars other than Audis (and NSUs and DKWs) to come into the central display area of the event. Those who sign up to drive anything other than an Audi on the track will be asked to park well away from the centre of the paddock and, if the numbers involved permit, we may well run some sessions for them alone so that there is no mix of Audis and other brands on the track. We will only do this if we can guarantee adequate track time for the Audi entrants. And, if we are deluged by Audi entries in advance, we clearly wouldn't have room on the track for any other brands!

Apart from the £10 entry charge for people (something which is decided by the Castle Combe management and which we only have a share of) we make no additional charges for club displays at Castle Combe and so, apart from the fees paid by traders and the track entries, we have no other source of income. Don't forget that, if you enter for the track in advance, then the driver won't have to pay on the gate to get in.

We certainly will not permit any cars other than Audis into the main display area at Castle Combe. The only exception might be where a trader has brought along a non-Audi vehicle as part of his display. We will do our best to guard against this, but we can't rule out the possibility entirely'.

Paul Harris, organiser Audi Driver International

PS If anyone has any other queries, comments or suggestions, please just drop us a line, or give us a call... mail@autometrix.co.uk or call us on 01525 750 500. Thanks

Ha! I know my place Joe!

I think that's made my mind up. I'm be bringing the S3 and joining you guys on the stand. I did ask Autometrix what form the track time would be for non Audis and they did say they hadn't decided - which is confirmed by Paul Harris's note.

There is a full track day at Combe on 14th November (Easytrack) which I'll go to instead with the Ibiza as it works out cheaper.
