Hi Guys,

It seems like a silly question and I know the legitimate answer (yes) but just wondering who did/didn't notify the insurance co of their remap etc., and the various consequences and ins and outs of it all.

Cheers

I just checked for my quotes on declaring my remap and it ended up £500 more!!!!! As it will most probably be my only mod I may end up taking the risk of not declaring.

Don't be silly, if you have a remap, declare it! Or you risk the chance of having void insurance in the event of an accident!!

If you don't declare it, don't be so stupid to post it up on a public forum. :keule:

Yes, my frontal lobe knew the answer but ya know, with an audience as big as this is one can at least ask a question even if you think you already know the answer, especially as their are bureaucratic tips, tricks and pit-falls with almost everything these days. I must admit though, I didn't expect a self-incriminating comment such as TKU's, lol.

Ringing the Ins Co in the morning - consider it done!

Welllllllll....I live an exciting life! lol..albeit encriminating myself in the process! lol...Looks like I WONT be posting pictures of myself or my car on this site any longer...Who said anything about a remap?..I'm leaving mine standard!!

I declared the remap on my B6 S4 and it hasn't affected my premium at all because the power increase is less than 10% of the car's total BHP. :)

Aaaaah!!! See, that's the kind of insider experience I was hoping to hear. Done it now anyway and it raised my insurance by 250. But my increase is about 70BHP over factory 260

Ouch. That's quite a hike. :(

Mine has resonated Millteks (quad pipes from the B7), Milltek cats and AMD remap so I was expecting an increase but happily it didn't happen. :)

I was looking over the weekend to see what hike they'd put on my S3 with a remap. Was around £150, but that also included an "air filter".

Be careful with CTM type websites. If you tick the modified bit and declare a remap, the quote I got was only slightly higher than std.
However, when I went on the company's direct website, the unmodified car quote was similar, but the modified car quote was much more.
It seems that the CTM remap section had ticked the "remap 0-10% BHP increase" box, whereas I wanted 10-25% BHP increase.

A small discrepency, but one which could leave a car incorrectly notifed to the insurance people. And you know what they'd try then in the event of a claim...

See that's the grey area, and I have rolling road printouts for my car with figures ranging from 231bhp to 256bhp(210 standard) through the years, but I always quote the BHP figure it made on the day of the remap, as it's just under 25% increase.

So if my car is 265bhp and after the remap is 300bhp...Do I measure the increase from the total? ie. 40bhp/300bhp or is it the drifference in increase from standard to map ie. 40/265bhp? Confused which box to tick.

I don't know about your insurance company but mine wanted to know what percentage of the stock total BHP does the remap give. So in my case stock BHP was ~340, after the remap ~365. So that's up 25 BHP which is a ~7.35% increase.

Insurance usually wants to know percentage increase over standard, so it would be 35/265bhp increase.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm struggling to understand % bhp thing with the insurance.
If I'm going from standard 100 bhp to 130 bhp with a remap how much of a % is this. Ie what category do I select on the insurance website 1-10% bhp 10-25%bhp 25+%bhp

Thank inadvance.

Where do you stand if you bought the car and it was remaped by a previous owner which you dont know about? Nobody knows for definate when buying a car if its been remaped or not.

Eeeerrr, surely that's the easiest equation for anyone, from 100bhp to 130bhp is obviously a 30bhp increase, which is a 30% increase over standard.

Another silly question, if you don't know about the remap, why would you be asking the question?!? lol

Either drive the car not knowing it's got a remap, or declare it if it has... Simples.

Well I thought that, but was going off Bill the butcher's equation above?

It's a percentage over standard, you always base your BHP increase over standard figures, so 100BHP would be 100%. As with all turbocharged engines, an increase of 30bhp is normal, but starting off with a lowly 100bhp, the 30 extra horses means a 30% increase!

But thats exactly what you could say if it was remaped and not declared.. Its a difficult situation.

Ok I see thanks... That puts me in the +25% insurance band, looks like I'm not bothering with the Remap then. Lowest quote I can get is £730 from £480 standard. I'm 41 full no claims ,3 points and a windscreen claim.. Really thought I would find something better. Its even worse if I take the wife off!!

Like someone said elsewhere if you can't afford the insurance then don't mod :(

That is entirely upto you what you say or don't say. What I am saying is, if you purchased a car not knowing it's remapped, why would you ask the question if it's remapped, if it clearly isn't!? You get me??

You either know it's remapped or not!

I guess you are trying to get quotes online, if you plan to remap the car and get an insurance quote, I highly recommend you call Greenlight, AdrianFlux and Skyinsurance, in that order for some quotes, you might find them more helpful! Don't forget to mention you are a member of Audi-Sport, it will get you a discount in most cases. I'm paying just under £550 for my S3 with everything declared(24% increase), 34, max NCB and 6points, so if you are paying more for 130bhp, something is not right!

Dunno about you guys but I bought my car STANDARD and it remains STANDARD therefore I don't declare a remap on my insurance...simples....

Ok thanks Jojo will ring up, I did a online quote with Greenlight and it come back at £930, I can't understand why they are so high? I'll give them a ring instead then.

Exactly what happened to me, I bought my current car as being a standard car (from an Audi dealer), and only found out it was remapped when I took it into a specialist for a healthcheck about a month later.

Declared it at the first opportunity.
