27 with 5 years ncb and still paying nearly £1000 for a 1.9 tdi????

My insurance has gradually been getting worse even though my driving record just keeps getting better, 0 points no convictions, squeaky clean license, i drive no more than 10k a year and have never had any claims, 5years no claims, been driving a shade under 7 years, (only reason i havnt got 7yrs ncb as i was a named driver) ive recently moved to a better area with offstreet parking, and still no better? also im 27 next month,

    What am i doing wrong??

normally i go through comparison sites, im currently with Octagon insurance, i have in the past been one for changing my car alot, (ive gone through 42 cars since 2005 to get to my a4) but surely this shouldnt affect the quotes im getting?

Any hints and tips or recommendations for good companies would be fantastic

Oh i currently pay roughly £750 a year for my 1.9 tdi se b6 a4

Yeah but the downside of Octagon is they dont offer 3rd party use on other vehicles so i cant drive my mums when im repairing it or taking it for MOT etc, i havnt had this cover since i was 22 and owned a Impreza wrx lol

Its my understanding that by law you do have 3rd party cover on another vehicle - some EU ruling if i remember correctly..

I take it the car is standard right? Then comparison sites are your best bet! I've found if you use Go compare to get quotes, then wait 10 minutes and use Moneysupermarket afterwards, the quote sometimes drops! My delivery driver also found out for some reason, if you look for a quote 3-4 weeks in advance, the quotes are cheaper than if you need cover in the next 7 days!!

Don't forget to add your mum/sister/gf onto the policy, this usually helps too, to spread the risk.

I'm not saying it's a sure way of getting your quotes down, but worth a go!

Somethings definitely not right with your quote though, I'm paying under £600 on my S3 with all my mods declared! And on my Passat Wagon 1.9TDI PD, I've never had to pay over £400, and that's with having 6 points speeding on my license aswell.

I think insurance companies just like having my life..... last one i was with i had to change my car a few times as they didnt provide 3rd party and my main car was in the garage for 4 months, and only thing i could do was buy temp cars that were really only fit for scrappy but had a little t&t, and after 3 changes they said "Sorry you are not allowed to make any more changes to the policy" so i had to insure a car that had been crushed for 3 months,

I seriously think insurance is THE WORST part of driving,

not due for renewal till march so im stuck for now, but i certainly will be shopping around at least 6 weeks prior to renewal date.

And yes the car is currently standard bar the wheels being painted black....

At least insurance eventually goes down with driving experience and NCB etc....

The worst part of driving is the fuel prices.....they will never go down

Is the 1300 the renewal quote? If so, shop around, it can easily be beaten, renewal quotes are always a joke!

It wasn't a swipe at yourselves, but in general... renewal quotes, which I presume are computer generated to post out, are never the 'best' quote offered by the insurance company. We, as drivers, have to shop around every year for the best quote. But insurance companies would easily retain our business by actually giving us 'the best' quote in the first place!

Again, though, it's a sweeping statement based on your own experience. We often get customers who stomp their feet about their renewal price, only to shop around and come back to us when they realise our price is indeed correct, in fact it happens all day, every day.

I answered a similar bit of feedback only the other day, this is a copy and paste:

I work closely with my renewals team but I also monitor what our competitors do, and the industry as a whole. I feel I'm in a better position than most to pick you up on your statement being wrong. Sure, a lot of people do see policy renewal increases, this has been prolific for the last few years, but less so over the last 12 months or so. No biggy but insurers receive a hell of a lot of stick, sometimes justly, sometimes not, your statement to me read, every insurance company increases price at renewal, I know for a fact this isn't the case, hence my initial reply. As an aside, the company I work for run at a 70% renewal retention rate, but that's a lot better than average.

Im paiying 700+ on my 1.9tdi 130 A3. no third party, but im a named driver on partners car. I found adding my partner to the policy reduced it by £100.

4years no claims, no points and 32y/o, been driving for 10 years.

Each yeah it would appear the no claim discount amount is swallowed by rises in premiums.

I have personal bad experience with Skyinsurance. Id never use them again. I wish I knew then what I do now, could have made my dealings with them much easier being fully aware of the law. However its not just sky, it would appear that across the board insurance companies or brokers are quick to take the money, then the communication breaks down when something goes wrong or the policy needs amending.

My latest gripe with my current policy was them producing a transcript of a phone call with my payment card details clearly not muted out as they should have been. This was found when another complaint was raised : they confirmed my proof of NCB twice and then after each confirmation they hiked my premium up for not proving it. The third time was the final straw!

    Talking insurance makes me mad.

all Depends on your area, In Blackley Manchester it is a seriously high risk area every drives round in old bangers and pay over a grand, where as i pay £500 for a high powered Audi in a low risk area ? its strange :P

In fairness I'm sure that not giving the best price upon sending out the renewal quote happens day in day out as well. Case in point, not with your selfs but with Adrian flux, they sent a renewal quote to me of £1141. Bearing in mind 4 weeks prior to that when I swapped from a mk4 golf gt tdi 130 to a 2.0 tdi a4 140 the price was £649. I rang them telling them I had found a quote for £500 (which was true) and asked if they could beat it to which they replied they were not in the market to beat that quote, so I requested that the policy lapsed and I bought the other insurance policy. The next day flux rang me and said they had matched the quote I had told them the day before, which on price they did but on excess and legal cover they didn't so still told them to stick it. Just proves that some companies will either give you the run around or hope that your lazy, can't be bothered to shop around and just take the quote they give you that's been plucked out of thin air.
