Thread: slight bump in the snow

hey guys! on saturday evening, i had a (roughly)5mph bump with someone in the snow. now just looking for a bit of advice really

A taxi driver stopped in the middle of a duel carridgeway abruptly and put his hazards on, now the woman in front of me had to try and avoid the taxi, i had to try and avoid them both. unfortunatly i couldnt stop the van and it went into her at about (roughly) 5 mph. (bumper to bumper) leaving a 3-4 cm dent.


Dont get me wrong, i know in most cases its my fault for going into her...but there was absolutley nothing in front of the taxi driver for a good 100-150 metres if not more, the taxi driver then decided to turn off his hazards and drive off....leaving me and the lady i went into. we both have his reg plate, and it will be going to both our insurers. just wondered what peoples take is on the situation?

One of those unfortunate situations I'm afraid mate. Even taking the weather into account, the fact that you went into the back of her means that you'll still be blamed

I still wouldn't give up. Give all information you have to the insurers and just see where they can take it, though I doubt it'll be a positive outcome.

ahh right....its a work van anyhow so i dont have to pay for anything. just thought because he'd stopped for no reason and then drove off something might be able to be done! ah well. it happens ey! not having any luck recently haha

Aye, you'd think there would be something you could do, but in reality unless the taxi driver came forward and said he suddenly stopped in a hazardous position which directly caused a collision, then you're on your own... and whats the chances of him coming forward and taking the blame?..

Its incidents like this which makes me want to invest in a RoadHawk or something similair, but even in this case you still may be blamed for not leaving enough room to predict harsh braking, one of those things really

Least it was your work van and not your Audi

surely, its the taxi's general fault and could be had for leaving the scene of an accident?

it would be the same as if you were driving down the road and some old bat pulled out in front of you, causing you to go into a lamp post, then the old bat drives off............ thats leaving the scene of an accident,,,,,,,,,,,, not thats it happened to me......

yeah thats the only thing i could see going against me, even worse still i had about 15 meters at roughly 5mph, just hit the smooth snow/black ice. it just seemed to go on forever lol....slow motion

this is what i thought, because its illegal right? just gonna leave it with them. given the taxis reg, and so has she....so theres 4 witnesses! (we both had a passenger)

Theres hardly any damage to her car either which is annoying. gaffer offered to pay for it to be fixed but she didnt want it.

I had a small hit in the snow last year and that was definitely slow motion, nothing you can do about it haha.

At least the womans being okay about it - certainly worth a shot fighting it to see if anything comes of it though I can't see the taxi man being blamed as it'll become a case of 'he said, she said' by which case without evidence nothing can be proved.
