I'm 28, have driving licence for 10 years and 3 years no claim (only 3 years because I'm in UK for only 4 and the first one was as a named driver on a bmer 318is).
I drive B6 1.9tdi daily and pay 750 quid fully comp insurance.
Want to buy B7 2.0 tdi for daily use and I get 950 quid quote.
Also want to buy as a project car A4 B5 1.8tq and cheapest insurance on gocompare is £1100.
Because I would use it only once in a while I thought that 3rd party + fire & theft will do. And it's £1900 cheapest!
Just to compare B7 2.0TQ would cost me 950 quid fully comp...
All cheapest quotes are from swiftcover but I'm currently with churchill.
Don't even worth to mention that for Evo I can't get a quote for under 2k which really ****** me off
How on Earth is that possible?

Its all as bent as a 9 bob note.

Mate of mine has just run some quotes after having been banned.

His first thaught for a cheap car to get himself back on the road was a 1995 Corsa 1.2, which came out to £1100.

I said for some giggles to try an 1996 A4 1.8T, which was well over 3 grand, at which point he began firing random cars at the quote engine to see what it produced. The results were pretty peculiar:

2005 Citreon C2 VTS: £1000
2006 VW Fox: £820
2005 Renault Clio 1.2: £840
2001 Renault Clio 1.2: £1150 (same car, 4 years older. 300quid more?!!)
2002 Volvo C70 T5: £1900

The VTS is as quick as the A4 turbo, and also worth 5x as much, yet it was cheaper than a 1.2 corsa to insure.
The two clios are completely stupid, same car, same spec, yet the older one is more expensive by a significant margin, even though its worth a lot less.
The Volvo T5 is nearly half the price of the A4 turbo, yet is a much more powerful car and is worth about twice as much as well.

Insurance has always been a strange thing.
I swear figures are pulled from a hat, apparently there is logic behind it...
I have a friend who just wrote his mazda MX5 off and straight out bought a brand new clio sport 200 cup.
His insurance worked out £100 cheaper than the 1.6 MX5 he had just written off! he couldnt believe his luck!

Luck of the draw i think, some times itll work for you others it wont

i went from a d-reg land rover defender worth £1000 or so to my audi a3 1997 and pay £45 more a year!! random. i was expecting at least a £200 increase!
