Thread: Samsung Bluray, what else to do need?

I have just been bought a samsung bluray player for my birthday and with the rest of the money i was given was looking to buy am amp etc to make up the full surround sound system.

Can anyone tell me what i need and whats best to buy, the bluray player i have has all the connections needed to add extra's.
I have around £600 to spend???

You need the speakers, an amp and a nice set of cables.

Im presuming you have the TV already, if so, make sure you are using a HDMI cable, to take advantage of the Blu Ray.

As for speakers, you cant go wrong with the following:

However, you are only going to get 5.1 surround sound out of the above, to get true HD sound, you will need an amp like the below, but then the price shoots up and you will also need a couple of extra speakers, and if you are to add to the above setup, they are about £100 each!!!

Yes already have a samsung HD ready tv and the blu Ray already connected up with a HDMI cable, cheers for your help, some great product there.

I can personally recommend this amp - I paid just over £400 for this last year, and at £300 its an absolute steal. The newer model is in so Richer seem to be getting rid of old stock

Add the iPod dock, and you have a great all round system.

What HDMI cable do you have? Differnt ones differ in different transfer rates so the more expensive ones are that price for a reason.. The systems nilz had shown are pretty good. And the amp that graemap showed was good too. It totally depends on what kind of surround you want like a normal 5.1 surround sound or some floor standing speakers, a centre speaker and two smaller rears. Balance your money around your amp because thats the investment. Go to a richersound store and listen to a variation of speakers, they normally have a home cinema room where you can listen to a variation. Let us know what you find! Hope that helps!

I highly recommend the Yamaha amps, I've had a couple now and they are good, HDMI switching is a good feature to try and get on your amp if you can, makes operating your whole system so much easier!

The best piece of advice I was once told when it comes to home cinema kit, is that the most important speaker by far is the centre speaker, I can't stress how much difference you notice having a decent one, spend as much on the centre as your 2 fronts is my advise as it does most of the work.

I've been looking for a new amp/speaker package for my Panasonic Bluray player and after reading this I went to richer sounds and bought one of the units recommended by nilz18t.

Purchased the all in one Onkyo HTS3305 for £299 and I'm very happy with it's performance. My old unit had limited settings adjustment and little bass but this has plenty of both. It's a stand alone amp sold in a package with some speakers that sound great.

sounds like you got all you need, just add surround sound that is connected through an optical connection. For value you wont really beat richer sounds as people have posted. I would have to disagree with the 'you get what you pay for' with the HDMI cable, iv seen loads of tests and it doesnt make the slightest bit of difference in real life, aslong as it shielded so it cant be under any elctromagnetic interference, which I think most are.
