    lappy wont charge more than 55%

    i have a weird fault on my dell vostro 1400 laptop, i cant seem to charge my laptop more than 55% coincidently my son dropped my laptop few weeks back and come to think of it dont remember it charging more than 55%. i think something must have done something to the mobo or battery memory as it was charging at the time of being dropped
    HELP!!!!

    Warranty? Otherwise it sounds like time to fork out for a new battery.

    also A3, 320, Golf, Clio, Astra, Focus, Mondeo, Laguna, Escort, Calibra, 220, others and now back to a Focus...

    no warranty sadly about 2-3 years old good spec though.
    it seems like something happened when the laptop was dropped, ive never had an issue with charging laptop before the drop

    So you can flatten it, then charge it and it says charged at 55% or does it think it's charged and when you look its actualy 55%?

    Are you sure? The only reason I ask is that laptop batteries are usually good for around 2-300 charge cycles, and after 2-3 years, you're doing pretty well if it's still holding more than 50% charge.

    Check if it has a battery diag tool in the bios on boot up, should have something like F10 F12 or the like on boot up to go into Bios or setup & flick through there for battery options or check the dell support section for your machine for a battery optimizer prog they sometimes supply.

    The drop may have damaged a cell mate which is maybe why only getting 55%, but check for above 1st before condemning battery.

    Im suprised jordans saying that as a top IT worker.

    New battery imo should be about 50-60 quid.

    yes can flatten it, however wont charge beyond 55%, sometimes 56%

    yes i could charge it up to 100% no matter how long i charge it for now it wont go more than 55%,
