Digital Camera - semi pro type

    righto all

I am in the market for a decent digi cam...

    high res
    macro feature
    hot shoe for flash

looking at the cannon pro 1

    BUT

I have heard its got poor auto focus for dim lighting and not good for fast moving work... like taking moving cars for eg!

other thoughts are the nikon but that is more

    any ideas chaps?

I've got a Panasonic FZ20 - made choice after a lot of research and having a digi cam for a few years.

Yes its got its faults, a lot of people say low light focussing is a problem, but I haven't found that yet - it does have a focus assist lamp. The long range zoom (12x) is brilliant and the anti shake really helps. As with all digi cams the shuter response is not immediate, but the FZ20 is one of the best digi's around. If you've got the cash then a DSLR is the answer, but then you have to fork out on lenses - have a look at dpreview and the specific forums in there to get an idea.

I assume you're after the SLR type, and not a compact? I have a Sony DSC-V1, couldn't fault it at all, plus its got infra-red, hot-shoe, completely manual if you want it... it's the dogs knackers! ONly 5 mega pixel though, but they do make an 8 mega pixel camera. They come with Carl Zeiss lenses, which are top of the market, and very quick to react, which is what you need for your moving cars!

When it comes to digi SLRs... I'd go with what the others said, Canon are hard to beat, and for a fair price too! If the skies the limit with cost, I would seriously consider a Leica... pretty good kit, with the best quality images/reaction time! (I have used Leica digitals in the past, and was pretty damn impressed)

Just bought a Sony P200 7.2 megapixel pretty good quality for the price. Nothing like the big guns that cost 800 and the likes!
