This is my first posting on here so my apologies if this is already a well-worn topic.

As it rolls off the forecourt, the MK2 TTS steering is set too conservatively for my liking. Has a generally-accepted solution to this lack of erm.. alacrity .. been developed yet?

Cheers

the tt and golf v and a3 8p seem to use the same parts generally and have the same handling foibles, notably understeer and a central vagueness/numbness

if you want to sharpen the steering response and get rid of some of the centre vagueness at the expense of making the car feel a little less stable at high speed, then you need to:

1) increase front negative camber with either modified lower wishbones or adjustable top camber plates

2) increase front castor if you can - only with adjustable top camber plates

3) reduce the rear negative camber a little (factory adjustable thank goodness)

4) reduce the rear toe to neutral but dont go toe-out or you will get danagerous road handling

5) uprate anti-roll bars front and rear

if i had an s3 or tts then i would go for a set of morego bottom suspension arms (negative camber but factory bushes/noise/ride) and a good set of ARBs, probably neuspeed, and reduce the rear toe in to neutral - wouldnt do anything else

Dunk,

spot on info. I didn't realise that BBR produced bottom arms. There's a good chance they provide a drive-in, drive-out solution, using their Morego parts.

I'll get in touch with them and see what they say.

the morego solution is £500 fitted, but if your old arms are cast rather than pressed steel then there is another £120 or so as your old ones are no use to them to be modified

Can I suggest you try a specialist chassis tuning. I recommended a friend to visit Center Gravity

http://www.centergravity.co.uk/

Having driven his S6 Avant, I thought it was probably the vaguest most uncommunicative car I had ever driven. He had his car sorted for £250+VAT and his testimonial is on their site.

Center Gravity have turned my old smoker into a fantastically responsive car even with that great big heavy lump sat over the front wheels.
