Bad Starting!

Hi there,
Is there anybody who can solve a bad starting problem? My 1.9TDI (1995) suffers from bad starting when hot, it fires and cuts, maybe upto 5 time before running. Very occasionally it does the same from cold. The plugs appear to be working OK. I asked a specialist dealer who works only on diesel Audi's and he described a "inductor wire" running from the ignition switch to a "box behind the dash, as being the fault! although he did not elaborate and only found this solution by chance so I am a little sceptical! Before I start pulling the dash appart as I can find no reference to this in the workshop manual, I would appreciate any suggestions. The engine runs fine once started and returns good performace and economy despite 120K miles. Any ideas? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If its the inductor wire, then surly this is part of the imobilisor? A lot of problems occur on the early ones with bad connections by the steering column, maybe that is what your specialist was refering to?????
